After we formulated our rescue plan that Sam dubbed 'Operation Dog Water', Raine had thought it would be a good idea to find fresh clothes for everyone and take turns using the shower since most of the group was still wearing their tennis clothes from the day before and were covered in dirt and grime. I searched through the dresser while Raine went through the closet in the bedroom.
"What do ya think!" Raine exclaimed. I turned my head to see her jumping out of the closet wearing a large feather hat, a fluffy scarf, and a giant robe, all paired with one of her classic grins. My eyes widened and I laughed when Raine did a twirl in the ridiculous clothes and then placed her hands on her hips, striking a pose.
"You should've been a fashion designer, Raine," I said, grinning and giving her outfit one last look. I shook my head and went back to rifling through the dresser.
"I know, the world should know my amazing sense of style. And you could've been my model. The team we would've made. We would've ruled the fashion industry."
After finding a couple of pairs of pants, shirts, and other pieces of clothing they could use, Raine and I handed them out to the rest of the group and packed up what we didn't wear into a duffel bag. Raine, Charlie, Fed, and Sam took turns using the bathroom, Raine going first since she didn't want to use the shower after 'a bunch of dirty stinky hobos', which we technically are - we are literally homeless. I stood by Dylan and Jack in the living room, keeping an eye on them while waiting for the rest to finish up.
"So, who was that guy you were talking about earlier? The one in Carson with my brother? I asked.
"Oh, Tommy! He's one of our friends. We've known him since we were little, well since Dylan was little. They've been best friends since forever," Jack replied. Dylan didn't bother looking over at me, and instead just leaned against the wall, crossing his arms.
"I'm guessing that's why you actually agreed to take us to rescue Connor and Bianca. Because you want to get Tommy too." I nodded my head and looked back towards the bathroom where Raine had just exited with wet hair and a fresh pair of clothes on.
"Well we didn't really have much of a choice, did we," Dylan countered. I glanced back at him. "And his name's Thomas."
"Okay, sorry," I muttered, raising my eyebrows at Dylan's defensive behavior. But I didn't want to engage in another pointless quarrel. Once Raine had dropped off her dirty clothes, I walked away from the two brothers to meet her in the hallway.
"Hey," I said, leaning against the wall.
"Hey," Raine smiled back. I saw her eyes find the bandage around my arm. She moved her hand to carefully touch the freshly wrapped bandage that covered the bullet hole underneath.
"Did it hurt?" she asked as she continued to trace her fingers over the fabric around my arm.
"Not at all. It felt like a little tickle," I said sarcastically and smirked.
"Haha you're so funny Nora," Raine teased, rolling her eyes, "I'm serious though. What did it feel like?" I looked down to Raine's more serious and concerned expression and sighed.
"It hurt a lot at first, but it felt better once the bullet was out."
"Does it still hurt?" Raine asked as her eyes left the bandage on my arm to look up at me.
"Only if I put pressure on it or use it too much.".
"Well, you look pretty badass," Raine grinned, and I laughed.
"Okay," Dylan started to say once everyone was showered, "we're going to have to break up into groups when we get to the compound if we want to do this right. One group will have to stay by the vans to keep them running while another will go through to the control room. The last group will go inside the compound and to the holding cells to get them out."
