Just like before I was back in my bedroom, it felt as though I was reliving the memory yet again. I had on my pink star pajamas and was back in my old bed. I heard movement outside of my door and creeped over to see my oldest brother Richard sneaking out. "Rich?" I whispered confused as to where he was going this late on a school night.
"You little brat, why are you still awake?" Growling at me, he quickly dropped to his knees and grabbed me by the shoulders.
"I couldn't sleep, where are you going?" I asked, frightened by his anger toward me.
"Come here." Huffing, he scooped me up and carried me down the steps, freezing momentarily when seeing our dad asleep in the living room. Putting his fingers to his lips, he set me on the kitchen counter and grabbed his special stash of cookies that he never shared with anyone. Handing me the last three cookies, he poured a glass of milk and handed me that as well. "This should help you sleep." After I had eaten the first two cookies, he smirked at me evilly. "Now if you snitch to dad that I went out, I'll tell them that you ate my cookies and you'll be in deep trouble understood?" Seeing the horror on my face, he knew that he won and pat my head in victory.
"Why are you so mean?" I asked as I hopped down from the counter and pushed his chest. We both got quiet when hearing dad move on the couch and then glared back at one another when he remained asleep.
"You're about to be twelve now Amelia, you need to grow up. Have you ever considered you're just a nuisance and I don't like you? You leave that kitchen window open for me or I'll make you regret it, understand?" Yanking my hair slightly, I winced as he nodded and started climbing out of the kitchen window. Huffing at him, I left the cookies and milk where they were in hopes of him getting caught and decided I was a big girl and could go to sleep on my own. As I got to the top of the steps however, I heard sort of muffled noises from my older brothers room, they were twins and shared a room.
"What are you guys doing up too?" I asked as I opened the door and noticed the open window. The door bumped into something and I noticed my brother laying by the door. "Aaron? When he didn't move, I peered into the room some more and turned on the light to find a scary man hovering over my other brother Peter. Screaming, the man quickly sliced into Peters throat before turning toward me. Aaron weakly lifted his arm to push me back as a knife flew into the wall next to me.
"What's all this noise?" Mumbled my mom as she left her room and Aaron slammed the door as the man went for it. Stumbling back in shock, my older sister Sarah opened her door and peered out confused as well.
"Amelia, what's the meaning of this?" Asked my mom as I stood there shocked at the site I'd seen. The doorknob started to turn and mom had reached me and was reaching for the door as she looked back at me. Just then the door slowly opened and mom saw the knife. "What in the?" The man appeared from the doorway and smiled evily as he sliced her arm.
"Mom!" Screamed Sarah as I screamed and fumbled backwards.
"Go to your sister!" Mom screamed at me and pushed me toward Sarah as the man blocked the stairs.
"You've ruined a good night Amelia" laughing, he stared straight at me as my sister pulled me into her room and slammed the door. I heard mom screaming and the sound of footsteps pounding up the steps, my breathing was frantic as I panicked.
"Mel, you're gonna be okay. We're gonna be okay, okay?" Cried Sarah as she looked around her room terrified and locking the door. Tying her bed sheet to her bedpost, she pulled the bed closer to the window and threw the blanket out the window.
