Happy New Year (2013), hopefully this one is better than the last :)

Hey, I am still writing on this chapter I just wanted to upload so that you could see who I wanted as Tanner :)         ----------------------------------------------------------------->

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Hey, I’m Ashlyn Brauer,” I tell him, offering my hand for a welcoming shake.

“Tanner Mateev,” he says, giving me a curt nod, but ignoring my hand.

Allowing my hand to drop awkwardly by my side, I scrutinize his face; seeing that he is giving me a polite smile, while his eyes are distant and uncaring, I turn back towards Thea—ignoring his presence.

“Are you ready to go to class now or do you want me to wait for you?” I asked her, wanting to just leave.

“I-I guess so,” she looks towards Tanner, “What class do you have?”

“I am going to advanced art, you?” he asks curiously, looking into her eyes with a smile.

“Physics… So, talk to you later?”

“Yeah, see you,” after saying goodbye to each other, Thea and I go our separate ways from Tanner.

“He is so cute and he gave me his number! Do you think he likes me? Should I ask him out? Should I wait to see if he asks me out? What about--” her ramblings are finally cut off when I put my hand over her mouth.

“I’m sure that he likes you, what’s not to like, and I think that if you really like him then go for it and ask him out,” giving her an encouraging smile and continuing our trek towards class.

Sitting at our lab table in class, she turns towards me—right before the bell rings—and says, “Okay, I am going to ask him out—unless you think it is too soon.”

“No, I don’t think it is too soon,” I whisper to her, trying to make sure our teacher doesn’t hear us speaking. After class, heading towards lunch, I watch Thea as she tries to psych up herself.

“Don’t be so nervous; if he doesn’t want to go out with you, then he is obviously not good enough for you,” I say, trying to help her calm down. I have never seen Thea act this way; usually she is confident, funny, and sarcastic. Seeing her act awkward and insecure is strange for me.

“Me? Nervous? Yeah, right,” she says incredulously.

“You are so right! What was I thinking, you nervous? Well, if you are so ‘not nervous’ then how about you go over there,” I said pointing over towards Tanner, “and invite him to sit with us or ask him out. Either way you should go to him.”

I look towards Thea and notice that she and Tanner are locked in an intimate gaze; giving her a nudge in his direction, I walk away from her and make my way over to where they serve the food. Picking out an apple juice and a salad, I search for Thea; seeing that she is sitting with Tanner, having a conversation, I decide to go and sit with a couple of my other friends.

“Hey guys, you all don’t mind if I sit with you, right?” I ask, waiting to take a seat.

“Do we mind?! Of course you can sit here, you don’t even have to ask us,” my friend Conner says, making room at the table for me to sit down. The rest of the table voices their agreements, giving me huge smiles, and updating me on the conversations that they are having.

“So, I can’t believe Thea is already making a move on that boy! When she knows what she wants, she sure doesn’t hesitate to take it,” Monica, another friend, says while giving me a ‘is she crazy look.’

“I think it is cute that she likes him so much,” Lillian, a quiet friend of mine, says looking shyly down at her hands.

“Same, isn’t it just adorable?” I say, giving an obnoxious squeal—the entire table bursts out laughing. “Anyways, what has been going on with you guys?”

“Well, little Miss Lillian over here went out on a date with our dear friend Conner,” looking between them, I see Conner smiling boldly at Lillian and Lillian blushing.

“Aw, that is so sweet! Are you two dating, now?”

“Well, it isn’t official yet,” Lillian says, glancing meaningfully at Conner.

“You better step on it then, before someone else tries to take your woman,” I tell him, trying to get him to realize that he needs to ask her out before it is too late.

“I know, I know,” he says putting his hands up in a defensive gesture.

“What about you, Monica? Are you dating anyone new?” I ask her, curiously.

“Girl, I am always dating somebody new,” she says with a wink. The rest of lunch continues in the same way; us talking, laughing, and teasing each other.

Heading off to my last class of the day alone, none of my friends have this period with me, I sigh with relief that in another hour and a half I will be able to go home and get some much needed sleep; I don’t know how I am functioning, I only had about three and a half hours of sleep last night—or should I say this morning.

“Hey Ashlyn,” looking towards the voice calling my name, I see Tanner, “Thea told me that you were going to AP History this period?” he states, although it sounds like he is asking a question.

“I am, so I am assuming that you are also going to history class?” I ask him teasingly; he gives a slight nod.

“So,” I start awkwardly, “you and Thea?”

“Yeah, she asked me if I wanted to catch a movie with her tomorrow. She is so awesome,” he says, with a hint of adoration in his voice.

“She is really awesome; and I know that she really wants to get to know you--” he cuts me off with a smile.

“You don’t have to worry; Thea, she is an amazing girl and I wouldn’t think to hurt her,” giving him a smile, I lead him to our class.
