“Wuh?” I mumble incoherently, eyes slowly opening I search around trying to find the source of my awakening.
“Morning!” sitting up suddenly, I realize that Thea is standing in my doorway.
“What--” pausing a moment to yawn, “are you doing here?”
“I am here to pick you up for school silly,” she says brusquely, heading to my closet and picking an outfit out for me. “Now get ready, I want to tell you all about my date.”
After stretching my arms and legs, I hop out of bed and put on the outfit she has chosen; without even looking at my clothes, I walk into my bathroom and quickly brush my hair and teeth.
“Okay, now let me get some breakfast into my system before you bombard me with details of last night,” dragging her behind me down the stair and into the kitchen I ask her if she wants something to eat, before getting myself a bowl of cereal.
“Nope, I have already had breakfast,” she tells me, motioning for me to hurry and eat my food. Eating as slowly as possible, I watch her as she gets irritated with my childish behavior. Finally finished, I tell her to tell me all about her night.
“It was so amazing,” she gushes, her eyes going hazy with reminiscence, “We went to go see the Hobbit and then we went out to the nicest restaurant for dinner.”
“Cool,” I say to her, trying to keep myself interested; while inside I was trying not to fall back to sleep. Eyes drooping, I just nod my head as she recounts other details of her night; still only half aware of what she is saying, nodding my head to give her the sense that I am paying attention, I suddenly jolt out of my seat when I feel something pinch me. Squealing, I look at Thea and give her harsh glare.
“Don’t give me that look, you should have been listening,” she says, defending her actions.
“I was to listening, I was just really deep in thought—picturing what was happening.”
“Oh were you, so you drool when you think?” she asks, pointing at something on my chin. Wiping in the area that she was pointing at, I feel wetness.
Blushing, “Whatever, that doesn’t prove anything.”
“Sure; let’s just start heading to school, maybe moving around will jump start your brain,” she tells me, pulling me out of my seat and out of the front door.
“Thanks for picking me up,” I say to Thea, happy that I wouldn’t have to ride the bus this morning.
“I don’t understand why you don’t just drive your car to school,” she says to me, starting her car and turning her music down.
“Why would I waste gas, and pollute the planet, when I could just ride the bus?”
“You are such a weirdo,” she says seriously, but in a nice way.
“I know,” I say, sticking my tongue out at her, “but that is why you love me.”
“How did you find out?” she asks. Giving her a confused look, she continues, “Ash, I have always had a huge lesbian crush on you.”
Looking at each other, we both burst out in laughter. Wiping the tears out of my eyes, “You dork.”
“And that is why you love me.”
