Hey Peoples this picture on the side is Ashlyn ----------------->

This is my first story so I hope you enjoy. I would love to get some votes and comments ;)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What a beautiful night, I think to myself as I walk through a dilapidated neighborhood; looking around, my eyes scan the abandoned warehouses and seemingly unoccupied apartment buildings for any sign of life. Blending into the shadows and cautiously making my way through an ally, I catch onto a slight movement in the window of an apartment.

Going into the ‘lobby’ of the apartment building and up the stairs—trying to avoid the mysterious substances strewn across the floor and hallway— I stop outside of the apartment, which may contain the person that I am looking for, and listen for any sounds that could be classified as suspicious.

I lean in closer to the door, straining my ears to pick up any noise coming from the apartment; about to give up; I finally hear the sound of a window breaking. Kicking the door in, pausing only a moment to fully appreciate the sound of splintering wood and the feel of a door giving way in front of me, I pull my stake from the holster on my hip and survey the situation presented before me.

Well, what do we have here?” I ask sarcastically, pulling a male bloodsucker off of an unconscious girl.

“Do you want to die human?” he asks, his voice coming out muffled from around his extended canines.

“I’m not going to be the one dying tonight,” I say to him, he gives me an incredulous look as I push him to the ground and shove a stake into his chest and through his undead heart.

Wiping the blood from my stake and putting it back into its holster, I help the barely conscious/alive girl back to where my car is parked. Rousing her back into a state of awareness, I ask for her address; so that I could know where to take her. Once I was sure that the girl had gotten into her house, I made my way to my own house; knowing I only had a few hours of sleep ahead of me before I had to get back up and go to school.

“Ashlyn, wake up. You have to get ready for school darling,” swatting at the person who dares to try and wake me; I turn over and bury my head underneath my quilt and pillows.

“Wake up, now,” I hear someone say angrily; just as I was falling back to sleep once again, my covers are pulled off of me and my body is exposed to the cool air of my room. Heart jump starting, my eyes snap open and a groan escapes from my mouth.

“Mom,” I say, groaning, and try to curl up into a ball in the middle of my bed.

“If you don’t like it, than you shouldn’t have stayed out so late,” I look up at my mother with an unhappy frown—if only she knew what I was doing last night.

“Fine, I’m getting up,” sitting up on my bed, stretching, I finally leave my bed and get ready for school. Showered and dressed, I grudgingly make my way down stairs  ready to start another day.

“Morning Mom, Dad,” giving them each a kiss on the cheek, I grab an apple and my backpack and go outside waiting for the bus.

Having gotten to school on the torture device they call ‘public transportation,’ I meet up with a couple of my friends in the library and we work together on homework and other projects that are either due today or sometime in the upcoming week.

“So Ash, have you heard that there is a new kid?” turning towards my friend Thea, I give her a questioning look.

“We have a new kid?” I ask stupidly.

“Yep, supposedly he is incredibly yummy,” shaking my head at her description of him, I tell her that I hadn’t realized that we had a new student.

“Now, why don’t we head off to class; I don’t want to be late,” locking arms with Thea we head off towards our first period of the day, AP Calculus.

“Nerd,” I hear say under her breath, jokingly.

“Whatever, says the person that asked me to go to a SyFy convention for her birthday,” looking over at her, I noticed that she was blushing.

“Don’t say it so loud,” she glances around, seeing if anyone heard what I had said, “that is our secret.”

“Why are you so embarrassed?”

“I’m not, I just don’t want everyone to know how much of a nerd I am,” I laugh at her comment, but then I cover my mouth to hide my smile as I realize she is glaring at me.

RING!

Just as the bell rings, we enter the classroom and take our assigned seats.

“Morning class, today we are going to be learning about limits at infinity, horizontal asymptote, and rational functions,” my Calculus teacher, Mrs. Goebel, says.

Writing notes on the new material, I am unaware that everyone in the room has gone silent along with our teacher. I only realize that the lesson has been stopped once the notes have stopped being written on the board; looking up to try and find the source of disruption, I pinpoint a new person standing beside Mrs. Goebel with a sheepish grin on his face.

“Hello, my name is Tanner Mateev,” he looks around the room, trying to see where his seat is.

“Good morning Tanner; while you are up here, would you mind telling us a little about yourself?” Mrs. Goebel asks kindly.

“I guess,” he answers with a cocky shrug of his shoulders.

We all wait expectantly for him to continue, “I moved to here from Australia, I am eighteen, and I can play the guitar.”

“Thank you for that information on yourself; now if you would be so kind, please take the seat next to Thea. Thea, please raise your hand,” Mrs. Goebel says, motioning to Thea. Looking towards Thea, I see her blushing.

“Alright, back to the lesso—RING!” Interrupting Mrs. Goebel, the bell rings signaling us to our next class.

Gathering my notes, I head to my second period.

“So, you’re new? I was new about two—Ash, where are you going?” Thea was talking to the new kid, but when she saw that I was leaving turned to me.

“Where do you think I am going? I’m going to class,” I give her a ‘that was a stupid question’ look and make to turn back towards the direction that I was heading.

“Well obviously you are going to class,” she says giving me a ‘duh’ look, “I was wondering why you weren’t coming over to introduce yourself to Tanner.”

“Oh, I am so sorry; I didn’t realize that I had joined the welcoming committee,” I say jokingly, heading over to where they were standing.
