Under the ocean, many feet below, lay the marvelous city in a dome that was Atlantis. Formerly ruled by the infamous Aquaman, it shined in its glory, its hay day of isolation. When the Justice League were made aware of an Atlantean plot of Aquaman's brother, Lord Orm, planning to take over the throne and his plans to wipe out the surface world completely using the Doomsday Thermal Reactor Aquaman had built, they helped the unwilling and stubborn King take down his brother. Ever since then, Atlantis had been emerging from its isolation.

At least, what she had learned.

Princess Lazuli sat in her room, a thick book on her desk. She mindlessly flipped through the pages, skimming the written text. She was reading about the history of her city to understand her Father's confusing and current mindset about the surface world. In all her 17, soon to be 18, years of her existence, King Ultramine, Lazuli's father and current ruler of Atlantis, was reverting the city back to its isolation period. It was stupid. She pressed her paw to her shoulder with the scar, sighing; her Father told her the story of why surface dwellers were vile, and it had to do with outsiders having infiltrated Atlantis and took her, initially planning to kill her but ended up scarring her instead. All while the Justice League had not been there for them in those times of peril. As a little kid, Lazuli understood her Father's decision and the law, but growing up, she was realizing the truth: her Father was being super protective and over-controlling of her for no reason anymore. She learned it was never the League's fault they couldn't stop the outsiders. They were busy with the lackeys of those outsiders.

I'm going to be an adult in a few weeks, the princess thought grumpily. I don't need to be supervised 24/7. I can take care of myself now. She angrily closed the history book, picked it up with a "oomph!", and shoved it back in its place on the shelf. She sighed and began scouting through her library to find....

There it is.

A small notebook of surface world studies. The one she used to note take all the things she had secretly been gathering and collecting on her many times she escaped in the middle of the night, in the cold ocean nights, scouring towns by the shoreline. She pulled out her notebook and eyed it curiously. She took a brief moment to open it up and skim at her current notes.

There was a knock on the door. Knock, knock, knock.

Lazuli closed her notebook quickly and put it back on the shelf in a haste. "Come in!" she answered.

Creak.

In entered an Atlantean female guard who was extremely light pale. Her eyes shone of ice-blue, a color that could bear into one's skull uncomfortably. She was well groomed, not a single hair out of place, and well mannered, her posture straight. "Starshern reporting for duty."

"Ah, yes, Starshern! Nice to see you. What did you want with me?"

"I have a request to deliver from your Father the King. He wants you to join him for lunch with your Mother the Queen, and the other guards," Starshern said.
