“Mom I'm home!” Jenny closes the front door.
“Where were you? Why are you home so late?” Mom asks from the kitchen, worried.
“Went to see Jeff. Where's dad?” She asks in a monotone voice.
“Your dad has gone for dinner with his team... How was the grave?”
“There were a lot of weeds. I cut it off and planted some daisies next to the grave.” Jenny replies, sitting on the table as mom serves her dinner, which was Fried Rice and Mushroom curry.
Silence engulfs the room as both of them started to eat. Dad was always the one to start the conversation. Mom rarely started it. Only the sound of the spoons clashing with the plates were heard.
“How was work today?” Jenny asks her mom.
“Yea….it was okay. I'm tired though.” Mom replies.
Jenny nods.
“What did you do today?”
“Nothing much. Just went to the florist and the graveyard.”
“How is Ava?”
“I didn't see Ava today. She was in the back, resting. She's hired a new part-timer today.” Jenny said, her mind wandering to the young man. He looked like he was from around her age.
“Jen I'm going to sleep now….” Mom says, snapping Jenny out of her thoughts. She then gets up, washes her plate and goes to the room and shuts the door.
Jenny quietly finishes her dinner and washes her plate and then keeps the leftovers in the fridge. She looks at the time on her phone.
9:30
*Dad's not home yet.*
She walks up to her room and sits on her bed. She then takes out her diary and starts to write.
Dear Jeff,
How are you today? Didn't do much but I'll tell you anyways……
I had a bad dream today. I was at the lake. Geez…..I never want to go there again. There was this voice….. calling me. It called me to join it and end all my problems. I didn't listen. It told me it was you but I didn't believe it. How could I not know my brother's voice? Suddenly I was at the edge of the shore and the water was up to my knees. I suddenly ran away from the lake and towards the forest. But a hand caught me and I fell. But I got up and ran again. The second time it caught me, I fell and darkness overtook me. Then I woke up.
So by the time I woke up today, mom and dad left. So I sat down on the balcony and relaxed for awhile before dad called. Then I had my breakfast and went to Ava's. She's hired a new part-timer. I wish I joined. It's so boring at home. I'll talk to her……
Then I went to the grave and spoke to you. Did you listen to it? I'm missing you so so so much. Anyways, I cut the weeds and planted the daisies I bought. And sat there till evening. I will go there everyday from now on.
And when I came home only mom was there. Dad went out for a company dinner. So our dinner time was quite and we only spoke a little. Then as usual, mom quickly finished dinner and went to sleep. I then finished and cleaned up the kitchen and came to my room. Now I'm writing. I will go to sleep after this.
I hope you are doing well in heaven Jeff. I really miss you. But I will be okay. Mostly. I hope I will…..
Jenny closes her diary and keeps it on the table. She then hears the front door open and close. Then footsteps. Then the master bedroom door opened and closed again. Then she could hear an argument starting.
Jenny sighs. Mom and dad have been arguing a lot nowadays. Help them, somebody.
She then picks up her headphones and her phone and goes out to sit on her balcony. She then puts on her headphones and listens to some music, enjoying the night.
*Ahh it's a full moon tonight!* She smiles.
________
“Jasper! How long must I wait?!” Jeffrey whines sitting next to him on a branch of the tree in front of Jenny's balcony. Both of them watched Jenny sit there and listen to the music, her eyes closed and a peaceful smile on her face.
“It's been a long time since I've seen her smile peacefully….” Jasper looks at Jenny.
“Don't avoid my question! And yes. It has been a long time seeing her smile like that.” Jeffrey smiles.
“And to answer your question, yes. You will be seeing her tonight. In her dreams. And—”
“What?! You serious?! Wow… Oh my God!! Thank you so much!!! Finally!!! Thank you! Thank you!” Jeff hugs him tight.
“Hey! Don't interrupt!” Jasper smacks him on the head.
“Ow! Okay! Geez….” Jeff mumbles.
“Okay! So listen carefully Jeff. There are some important things you need to know…...”
________
Jenny finds herself in the forest again. Right in front of the lake.
*Why am I here again?! Is the voice going to be here too?!*
It is quiet…..way too quiet. But Jenny felt calm. She didn't feel scared, like last time.
“Chocolate?”
She turned towards the direction of the voice. She gasped. Tears started to fall from her eyes.
There he stood in front of her. His blue eyes shimmering and a smile on his face.
“Come here Chocolate!” He stretches out his arms wide.
Without any hesitation, she runs. She runs to her brother and crashes him in a hug. She hugs him tightly.
“I missed you so much Jeff! I missed you so much! Never let me go again!”
He kisses her forehead and pulls her closer to him. As much as he could.
“I promise. I will never ever leave you again Chocolate.”
