Somewhere in Fiji
No known dateViliami
The feeding machine whirred and out came a serving. He dragged the bowl close to him and ate the plain tasting pellets. He wondered if today the man would come. It'd been a long time since he saw the man - Julius - yet he wasn't complaining.
He didn't like the man. Julius always hurt him when he was around.
He had just finished scraping the bowl when his ears picked up something. A noise, coming from outside...or was it inside?
He sat up and tried to look out the glass screen. The robotic guards around him left and went towards the exit. He tensed up; what if it was Julius?
He heard footsteps and moved away from the glass. Instead of Julius though, it was a girl, a woman. She had yellow eyes and long dark brown hair. Her skin was dark and she smiled as she saw him. He let out a breath. She was beautiful.
"Hey," she said softly. "My name is Violet. I'm gonna get you out of here, okay?" The glass screen opened wide and Violet climbed into the enclosure.
He moved back. She held out her hand. "It's okay. I'm here to help. I won't hurt you, I promise. Trust me, everything is going to be okay."
He looked at her and slowly came closer. She took his hands and raised him up. Shakily, he stood on his legs although barely. He hadn't walked in ages.
"What's your name sweetie?" she asked, her voice still as soft as it was when she first saw him. It reminded him of his mother.
"Viliami," he said.
She smiled and turned. "Get on my back Viliami."
He climbed her back and held unto her neck. She jumped down from the enclosure and walked away. She smelt nice, he thought. "Close your eyes Vili," she said. Immediately, he shut his eyes and held on tighter.
"The others?" he heard Violet say and opened his eyes. They were outside in the sun and he winced. Violet turned to him. "You okay back there?"
"Too bright," he murmured.
He felt something cover his eyes and he opened them slowly. He was wearing sunglasses, and another woman was standing opposite him and Violet smiling.
She was also beautiful, with dark skin, darker than Violet's, and yellow eyes, like Violet. Her hair was black and braided down her back.
"Three girls were in the bear section, they're with Jodi and Shannon, and one boy was in the dog section. He's with Paris. They're all on the plane." she was saying to Violet.
Violet nodded. "Good." She turned to him. "We're going home Viliami. You're going to meet your new family."
Family. The word made him blink. He didn't care where Violet took him, as long as he didn't have to go back into that glass cage. And as long as he didn't have to see Julius.
He froze as he remembered his father and whispered. "Julius?"
Violet shook her head. "You'll never see him again. I promise."
That was more than enough for him. He fell asleep on Violet's back, thinking of his new family.
