Somewhere over Mexico

I washed my face and sighed. Being a cougar was hard. It didn't help that, since I was studying medicine, I had classes from sun up to sun down. And even when the sun came down, I couldn't sleep because cougars were nocturnal, and sleeping at night was a foreign nature for me. Don't get me wrong, I love being a doctor. But sometimes, it could be a little too much for me. Damn you Julius Sinclair, to the deepest parts of hell.
I dried my face and studied my slitted pupils. I still found it unbelievable, and quite frankly amusing, that nobody, other than my sisters, knew my pupils were abnormally shaped. And that my glasses were completely useless but then, I'm not complaining. I cannot start explaining to my professors why my eyes look weird.
After thoroughly drying my face, I went down to the room Essence and Tammi were sharing. Something was off about Essence and I needed to find out what it was. Her senses weren't as sharp and her pupils seemed larger than usual. I wanted to tell Violet, but I thought it was best if I did some digging first.
I opened the door and nearly threw up on the spot. I knew that smell anywhere, technically it was the reason I was currently part cougar. But the main question, why the hell was cocaine on the plane? I entered the room and my eyes widened as I saw Essence sniffing the foul drug. I immediately saw red. I smacked the drugs on the floor and turned to her with a growl. "What exactly do you think you're doing?" I asked, my voice still growl like.
Her eyes widened. "Vann, I can explain."
I raised a brow, "Explain? You want to explain why you're currently destroying your life? Then by all means Essence, explain because I have no idea what the hell is going on."
Violet entered, "Hey Ess, I need you-" she heaved before hissing, "What the hell is that smell?"
"Cocaine," I said harshly, my eyes never leaving Essence, "And our darling sister is going to explain why she has it."
"Essence, what are you doing with cocaine?" Violet asked bewilderedly. "I swear it's for a good cause," she said. "Cocaine helps suppress my cat side, so I'm not crepuscular anymore."
Violet facepalmed, "Jesus Ess, you've got it all wrong. Cocaine doesn't just suppress it, it slowly kills it too."
"Then isn't that a good thing? We don't have to be like this anymore, we won't be weird and abnormal," Essence said.
God, she was so stupid. I felt like using my claws to scratch some sense into her.
Violet opened her mouth to speak but I spoke first, "Let's forget about your cat side for a moment. Need I remind you that coke is illegal? And that people go to rehab and die because of this shit you're doing?" By now, all the other girls had come to the room. They had different expressions on their faces - Zeph looked angry, Jodi looked disappointed, Ember, Koby and Paris looked sad while Tammi looked like she was going to burst into tears. Shannon just looked blank.
Violet sighed, "Okay, let's time out, please. We're about to land, I just wanted to tell you girls to come fasten your seatbelts." We went to the main cabin and sat down to fasten our seatbelts. A few minutes later, the pilot's voice sounded through the speakers, "We have officially landed in Cancun. You are free to unfasten your seatbelts." I quickly unbuckled mine and turned to Essence, "Just so you know, if you kill your cat side, you'll die as well because both genes are bonded, one literally cannot survive without the other. Also, if you ever and I mean ever OD on that shit you think to be helping you, don't think for a second I'm going to put you rehab. I'll just be there for the funeral." I heard Ember gasp but immediately ignored it and marched to be my room.
Essence was on her own.

Violet
After Savannah's meltdown, the girls quietly went back to their rooms. Now, anyone would think Vannah was overreacting but I understood why it hurt her most. For one thing, she's a bloody doctor and for another, cocaine was what killed her mom. She must not be taking this well.
Koby and Jodi though, stayed behind and they waited patiently for me to say something. "So, that happened," I said.
Jodi chuckled, " Why do you always make bad jokes in situations like this?"
I smiled wryly, "What can I say? I like to keep things interesting." "What do we do Vi?" Koby asked. "We can't let Essence keep taking coke, she'll kill herself."
"And we can't force her because eventually, she'll go back to Hollywood and it'll start all over again," I said. Koby sighed, "This takes bullshit to a whole new level."
"Look, for now we can't do anything. Vannah has already kicked things off on a not so good note, and we're kinda in the middle of something. Instead, let's just focus on not dying in the next three days so, Jodi go get Shannon and come meet me by the rental car store. Koby, go make sure Vannah's not going to do anything rash while we're away. By the time we've come back, hopefully they've both cooled down," I said.
Jodi and Koby nodded and left. "Oh and Koby," I called. She turned. "If you see Tammi, try to make her feel better, okay?" I said. She smiled and nodded. I sighed again. Being the eldest is hard.

I signed the final documents and collected the keys from the store owner. I left the store and stood outside beside the rented car. I heard footsteps and looked up. Jodi and Shannon were coming, Shannon's face still a blank mask. If there was anyone who was good at masking their emotions, it was Shannon, although out of the ten of us, Jodi was the best. I wondered what exactly was running through her head, and immediately hoped that she wasn't thinking about it.
Sixteen was way too young for that level of bullshit.
They stopped in front of me. "We good to go?" Jodi asked. I glanced at Shannon, then nodded, "Let's go."
Time to find this Faustino guy.
