"Get back in!" I was sure that was Zion's voice but I was frozen. The scene unfolding in front of me was horrendous.

Limbs were torn from bodies, blood flowed on the ground of the parking lot. The screams, oh God, the screams! Despite my heart thumping wildly in my chest, my mind trying to register what was happening and my tears flowing down my cheeks, my feet won't move.

"Ashley!" I heard my name and saw one of the monster turning slowly towards me. It began charging, too fast for my eyes to see but I was pulled back, right in time as the glass door close shut on the monster's face. It continued scratching and slamming against the door, causing a hard time for the students holding the door shut. Others were already pushing the chairs and tables back into place to barricade the monster from coming in.

I was still frozen, just staring blanking at the silhouette of the monster, still at the other side of the glass door. A slap was delivered to my face, making me snapped out of it. I turn to the person who did that, seeing her small frame shaking madly.

"You stupid crazy bitch!" Laura screamed into my face, crying at the same time.

"You scared me to fucking death, dumbshit!" I heard Layla swore before enveloping me and Laura into a bear hug. Mike and Fred wrapped their arms around us, realisation suddenly came to me.

I was outside, facing the monster or zombie or whatever and I almost died! My legs finally gave way, I could barely stand but I held onto my friends, whispering apologies. We stood like this for a few minutes, as the other students were standing nervously around us.

After a few minutes, I was let go, finally able to take deep breathes to calm myself. Zion came to stand in front of me but I couldn't look at him in the face after just dashing off like that despite his warning. "Well, I was truly in trouble."

"No shit, Ashley. If I didn't pull you inside fast enough, you would be a goner," he had his arms crossed in front of his chest, looking down at me. I was prepared to get a earful from him. "But you're safe now and that's all that matters."

Gently, he pulled me into a hug, his hands combing through my wild hair. I must have had a broken tear dam or something because I started to burst into tears, incoherent words coming out from my mouth. I kept apologising and I felt his body vibrate, silently laughing. Before he let me go, he kissed the top of my head. I felt my heart leaped when he did that.

"Alright, yall better stay in here till someone comes to get us or yall can be snacks for those things outside," Zion looked at the other students, his arms still encircled around my waist. I blushed madly, and turned to my group of friends who had the same look of disbelief.

Yeah, I'm shocked too.

"We get it but do you really have to hold her like that?" A guy, who I recognised as part of the football team, said. One of his eyebrows were up but he was grinning, teasingly. Zion looked at his teammates, then back down at me.

"I had too or she'll run off again and get into trouble."

I swear this was my first time having this much attention on me. Somehow I was thankful that the student population in the gym had decreased or I would have more than 100 students attention on me. His teammates started whistling and cheering, although it was hardly the time for that as half of the senior students had been eaten outside the gym.

It was like they had completely forgotten about it. I looked up at Zion who was smiling down at me. This time, my suspicion was correct: his forest green eyes had specks of gold in them and it was shining so brightly at me. I pushed away from him as a reflex and he was shocked at my sudden movement.

"Oooo, looks like she hates it!" Another one of his teammates said, watching me. I felt the heat rising to my face and I shook my head.

"No, I don't hate it!" I stopped when I realised what I said. I took a moment to recompose myself before I continue. "I just don't think this is the right time to be cheering and stuff."

I didn't wait to see their reactions as I walked toward Layla and Laura, who pulled me towards our area.

"You know, Zion isn't that bad. He is good looking – and better looking then you know who." Laura said as Layla nodded beside me. She took out makeup wipes from her bag and gave it to me and Laura. I looked at her, wondering why she haven't offer this earlier but she just smiled.

"But flirting right now shouldn't be an option," besides something felt off with him but I couldn't tell my friends about the way his eyes were a different colour when he was looking at me.

Author's note:
Well, what a boring story. I know. I made this last year and I've alr uploaded about 13 chapters but I delete the story, planning to edit it in my notes but I end up not doing it and now I'm back to reupload it. Not sure if this chapter was edited. I last touch it on July 2020. Pretty sad, huh? I don't have the motivation for anything anymore.
