"That was the second time," Zion muttered under his breath, looking towards the bushes. I looked at him with wide eyes, thinking about the same thing. But before I could say anything, Laura and Layla came hurling towards me, shouting my name.

"Ashley! Finally we found you! We almost thought you went home! We saw Brandon with–" Laura stopped on her tracks when she neared me, saw the person I was with and dramatically gasped, dropping her purse.

Layla halted behind her, the look on her face mirroring her twin. Zion laughed beside me, smiling as he looked at my friends. He bent down to pick up the purse that had dropped and held it out for Laura to take, winking as he did so.

I was distracted by the sound that I didn't pay attention to what Laura and Layla was saying. Without saying anything, Zion put a hand behind me, starting to push us towards the gym's door.

I could see he was nervous and I was too focused on the bushes to notice anything else happening besides the noises that I had just heard behind the bushes.

Just then Laura stopped walking, just a few steps before reaching the door. "Are you sure you want to go back in, Zion? Brandon and Amanda are dancing and they are practically drawing so much attention towards them. You might get hurt."

I could hear the worry in her voice as she looked at the boy beside me.

That was the kind of person Laura is; she would worry about anyone that she know of and she was definitely worried that Zion would get hurt.

However, Zion just shook his head and smile. "Thank you for worrying but I will be just fine, pretty."

Laura blushed at his compliment but she doesn't say anything else. Layla was just looking at him.

The thing with Layla was that, despite being quite popular herself, she has a strong dislike for other popular kids. But I know she pitied Zion right now since he was just dumped by his own girlfriend at prom.

Suddenly, there was a scream and a couple jumped out from behind the bushes, their clothes falling off their body.

Ugh, they were doing it behind the bushes! How disgusting!

I thought those rustling sound I heard came from them but I noticed the screaming didn't stop until another body dashed out from behind the bushes, his legs and arms distorted. I gasped, watching with wide eyes as the odd figure jumped onto a guy nearby and bit into his neck.

Everything became blurry as I was pushed into the gym while some students were closing the glass doors and barring it with anything heavy they could find. The screams seem to intensify and there were banging on the glass doors. Streaks of red liquid start to stain the glass, while there were still students outside the gym, running for their life.

"What's happening?" Laura was holding onto Layla and she was trembling so badly. Fred and Mike were beside them, trying to take care of their partners. I stood apart from them, my hands on my mouth as I continued hearing all the dreadful screams and the cries for help.

"That could have been us," my legs gave way as I dropped to the floor, tears in my eyes. "If we took a few minutes longer to get to the door, we could have been eaten."

I was whispering to myself, the image of the monster - or whatever it was - that was biting the neck of the boy, burn into my head.

"Hey, you OK?" I heard Zion beside me, kneeling on one leg, rubbing circles on my back.

Of course I'm not OK!

I wanted to scream at him but I only shook my head. My mind was not set right and my sight blurred by my tears. By now, I was sure that my makeup was ruined already.
