I was partially dragging Zion to the farthest part of the gym, placing him down gently. He was heaving, trying to calm himself down and making sure his eyes were back to normal. I sat beside him in silence, waiting for him to make sure that he was calmer and ready to talk.
A few seconds later, he told me what happened.
"He asked me if you had a boyfriend and I said you don't."
I nodded, knowing where this was going.
"He said, you look like the kind that...you know..." He trailed off. This was the reason I wished to never meet Daniel again in my entire life. He was a bastard that thinks of a girl as nothing more than a piece of meat. I put a hand on top of Zion's, coaxing him to look at me.
"Thank you for standing up for me," I leaned against his shoulder, rubbing my hand atop his. I could feel him smiling and slowly putting his cheeks against my head. He sighed softly. We stayed silent in the comfort of each others presence before we were interrupted by one of Daniel's friends.
"Hey..."
I looked up, seeing the girl standing at quite a distance. In her hand was a bat, that was painted with red streaks, which I assumed was in thanks to whatever she had beaten outside. By her hips were guns, that I've never seen before in my life.
Where the hell did they even get them?
"I know Daniel is an ass. Literally that's how everyone see him in school. But he helped out a lot as we were coming here to get you," she continued while I was still staring at the guns she had.
I didn't feel like replying to her, so I only nodded.
"Before coming here, he had a fight with Damon on the phone. Couldn't really make out why they were fighting but he assured his brother that you will be safe. He has that side too."
I don't understand where this girl was coming from with all this talk but I sighed in defeat and went to her. "I don't care what you have to say about Daniel. He knows me as Damon's stepsister so all I want from him is to at least have respect."
"I understand. You know, he won't apologise for beating your friend," she gestured to Zion, who I just forgot was actually bleeding. "But he will definitely keep you safe as he promised his brother."
If he won't apologise, then nothing can be done. It was not like I can force him. So I just shrugged at what the girl said. She smiled softly before she handed me a bag full of bandages. I took it and quickly worked on Zion. He didn't once winced in pain, but he ever so often looked at me and winked.
He knew what kind of effect it had on me as I would pause what I was doing, dodged his eyes and blushed.
The pain of being close with someone handsome!

Moments passed. My throat was parched since the aircon had stopped working. The sun was high up in the sky at this moment as it shined into the gym's glass rooftop. I was grateful to be out from my prom outfit but the rest was not that lucky.
I could see them groaning and complaining of being sweaty. The fruit punch drinks that were fortunately safe from being spilled had turned warm and bland as the ice had melted. Even so, the students drank to stop themselves from being dehydrated.
I had held onto my purse, thankful I could sling it across my body, and my flat coke drink. I gulped down the rest of the warm liquid in the bottle and discarded the bottle. Zion was sleeping beside me. His shirt was opened so wide, I couldn't help but trail my eyes from his chest to his abs. I swear, his body looks so good at the moment, I just want to snuggle close to him. But the heat was unbearable, so I chose against doing that.
