"Damon told you to save me?" I was confused, but part of me was thankful that the stepbrother I had not been close with, would think of rescuing me. However, asking his brother to be the one rescuing me, was not something I thought he would do. Since he has a huge ego.

"Let's just say he owe me after this," it was as though Daniel read my mind. "Though I do admit, this was a good opportunity for me to meet the stepsister again."

He was checking me out and I felt gross. I hid more behind Zion, hoping those travelling eyes would stop but all he did was smirked. He threw a bag on the ground near me, clothes coming out from the impact.

"Something more comfortable for you to wear. Sorry if they're too tight. Borrowed them from my ex."

Of course, I do not want to question him. In fact, I would rather not talk to him at all. But he was here to save me so it was inevitable that we would need to converse.

I picked them up, seeing the tight shirt and skinny jeans. I don't mind them; they looked more comfortable than the dress I'm wearing but the only downside to this outfit is the shoes. He brought none.

I guess I have to run around barefooted.

"Whoops, almost forgot!" He chuckled and threw a shoebag beside my feet. I picked it up and saw sneakers, ones that looks just like mine from home.

He seems to read my expression, a smile on his face, almost waiting for any kind of reaction but I kept my cool, collecting the clothes in my arms.

"Storeroom," Zion said. I turned to him, cocking my eyebrows as I was confused. "To change."

Oh, why didn't I think of that?

With my arms full of the clothes, I made way to the storeroom, with Zion silently following behind. I could feel all their eyes on me. Turning around, I caught Zion looking at me. He smiled and quicken his pace to walk beside me.

"Why are you following me?" I asked. I mean I was just going to change. He doesn't need to follow me. Not like anything would happen in the storeroom.

"For counter measures. What if those guys were bad and let the monsters into the gym. At least you'll be safe in the storeroom and I'm here to make sure you're safe."

I nodded, opening the door to the storeroom. The smell hit me so badly that I gagged. It was so musty in here, I think I would die first before the monsters even got to me. I chuckled darkly. Luckily Zion didn't notice it or he would have asked and get mad at my thoughts.

"Alright. I mean I do admit, you have the highest chance of being the only survivor, maybe."

There was another meaning behind that sentence and Zion noticed it. His perception is too accurate that it was scaring me. He bowed his head, so that I couldn't see his eyes changing colour but I could see the faint smile he had.

"You're unbelievable," he whispered but I heard him.

"And I'm glad you're...protective," I admitted. He nodded and pushed me into the storeroom, then he closed the door and told me to hurry up. As I was changing, I could hear chattering outside and some dragging, which I assume was them moving the tables to block the door.

I tried to block out the smell that was getting unbearable and quickly changed out from my prom dress. I hold up my dress and just looked at it. The stains from the dirt and the smell it gives off from the sweat made me cringe but I remembered that nothing could be done since I was stuck inside the gym.

I was wearing my shoes when the door burst open to a boy I had remembered sharing the same literature class with. He was frantic, wanting to say something but the words were caught in his throat. I quickly wore my shoes and stuffed all the things into the bag, seeing the boy pointing outside.

When I got closer to him, he finally was able to get the words out to talk. "He got into a fight!"

I didn't have to ask him to know what he meant. I shoved him aside to see Zion and Daniel at each others throat. Daniel's gun was discarded and a circle of people were formed around them. They were punching, blood trickling down from their face.

"Zion! Stop!" I shouted and dropped the bag, squeezing through the crowd to stand in front of him. His eyes were fully golden by now and he had the most inhuman snarl on his face. "Zion!"

I screamed again, hoping it will get his attention and it did.

"Get out the way, Ash. I'm gonna beat that fucker up!" He walked forward but I put my hands against his chest.

"No, stop!" I said and whispered. "Your eyes..."

He realised what I meant and relaxed but Daniel began to taunt him again. "Ah, what a good puppy you are."

"You–!" Zion didn't even finish his sentence since I turned around and landed a slap on Daniel's face.

"You came here to rescue someone but that doesn't mean you can act like such a big shot in this place!" I was panting so hard after I had shouted that. Everyone was stunned that I had so much vigor in me. Even Daniel was quiet as he held his cheeks. He chuckled, rubbing the sore spot but he said nothing as he went to pick up his rifle and stood with his members.

I sighed loudly for everyone to hear and soon the circle disperse and I looked at Zion. He was heaving.
