I take back my thoughts about Daniel: he was as bad as I initially thought he would be. And why did I say that?

Apparently after the discussion he had with his team, he had gone and flirt with the girls who were eagerly waiting to get out. He must have said something wrong and the girls were shouting at him.

He didn't seem the bit regretful of his actions and instead were yelling back at them. I sighed as I watched the girl who had talked to us earlier, trying to pull him away and apologising to the girls. My attention was averted when I felt the weight on my shoulder shifted. Zion began to wake up, rubbing his eyes in a cute manner as he groaned and stretched.

Finally!

I did the same thing as him and massaged my right shoulder a bit to relieve the tension. I didn't realise that Zion was watching me as he looked apologetically at my shoulder.

"Oh, don't worry. It's just a little tense, not sprained."

Zion nodded but he didn't say anything. He took a few moments of silence, which made me worried, thinking he had fallen asleep again. I leaned forward and took a peek at him but he was awake and just zoning out.

"I think we can leave soon," he said as he stared in the direction of the glass door. My eyes went in the same direction and I just looked, wondering what made him say that. Of course, I had realised that there weren't any movements or sound coming from the outside anymore but it was still eerily quiet.

Have the monsters eaten the animals too?

"They crave for blood but there's no more to get here."

"What?"

I was confused. What does he mean by that? I mean there was still so many of us stuck in the gym; there were still plenty of blood to feast on. I shudder at my own thoughts but I wasn't wrong. Could the monsters have moved to another location to feast?

"They're resting for the day."

I turned to look at Zion who had stood up. He held a hand out for me and I grabbed on. Slowly I was pulled into a standing position and I waited for him to let go of my hand but he didn't as he slightly tugged for me to follow him. I was confused, wondering if Zion could also read minds as he was answering my thoughts but I didn't want to ask him.

Silently, we walked towards Daniel and his friends. They looked at us warily but made space for the both of us to join into the circle.

"Ah, welcome! Glad you can join us, stepsister!" Daniel was mocking me, I was sure of it. When he got no response from me, he chuckled instead of being offended. He whispered something into the bat-carrying girl's ears and she nodded.

"Team, this is Ashley Smith and Zion Matthews. They're the people we have to help," she turned from her team to look at me. "I'm Sarah, by the way. I'm this asshole's best friend."

She nodded, not smiling and I realised that was just the kind of person she was. Soon, we were caught up on their planning but they were quite on edge with the plan. Maybe because of the fact that they have weapons and the exit were heavily guarded by the military or the fact that they do not know when or where the monsters will jump out from.

Both sounds equally bad to me but I really want to be with my family again so I don't even weight the downside of it all. Besides, I don't want to wait any longer in the gym, knowing I'll be a sweaty mess and sooner die of hunger.

At the cue of hunger, my stomach began to rumble and I flushed as I covered my stomach, which literally did nothing to mask the sound.

"Someone's hungry," Zion chuckled by my ears. I shot him the most evil look I could give but because of my red cheeks, it made him laugh harder. He had completely forgot he was surrounded by strangers who were giving him the nasty look.

"Here," Daniel had taken something out from his bag and handed it to me. I took the wrapper without thinking much and unwrapped it to reveal some sandwiches. It had become warm from being in the bag for too long and I wasn't sure if it was safe to eat anymore but I was too hungry to worry. I took a big bite from the sandwich, savoury the taste.

Zion had stopped laughing by then as he watched me eat without the care of the world. I was sure everyone else was also watching me but I couldn't be bothered anymore. I gobbled the whole sandwich up and gulped down the remaining content.

"How was it?" Daniel asked, smiling softly. I hummed, indicating I was satisfied with it and licked the corner of my lips.

"Missed a spot," Zion brought a hand out and wiped the mayonnaise at the corner of my mouth that I failed to lick. He brought it to his lips and sucked on his finger with the mayonnaise.

I blushed. What is this guy thinking?!

I could feel the gazes from everyone around the table and I was sure they wished they could bleach their eyes. However, Daniel was the only one smirking as he stared at Zion. It wasn't an evil look but there was something unnerving about it that made my skin crawl.

A few minutes later, the group began talking again about their plans. Zion was actively trying to include himself and the group didn't seem reluctant to let him in. On the other hand, I chose to keep quiet because I know I can't give them any useful information.

Knowing that I can't even catch up with whatever they're talking about, I excused myself from them and took a seat at a table nearby, feeling drowsy after eating.

"So, what's the plan?" Some random guy came up to me. I looked at him in a daze, my mind not registering who he is. I rubbed my eyes twice then looked at him again.

"Sorry. Who are you?" Obviously, I don't feel comfortable telling him anything about the plan, eventhough I know nothing about it myself. But he doesn't know that, so I kept my guard up.

"I'm Rick Francis, Zion's best friend. You must have seen me around, right?"

I rubbed my tired eyes again, focusing on the guy in front of me. It took me a while to register than he was in fact Zion's best friend. They hang out together so often, they were inseparable.

It was also said the they were friends since childhood, so I'm sure he knows about Zion's "conditions", right?

"Ah, actually I have no idea what's going on." I admitted.

"Well, that sucks."

He left me looking at his back, wondering why he had came from hanging out with his group. I saw his friends watching coming to greet him but they all looked disappointed when he replied them. In the end, they all took a seat again and tried to busy themselves.
