On the outside of the small bakery, was a rectangular sign. 'URGENTLY HIRING' why not? It would be an easy job, and a steady way to make money.
I walk inside the crowded building. There are around 10 people in line that fit inside the small building, and another 10 lined up outside. I walk past the line, ignoring the crude comments flying towards me. There was a woman behind a counter, she looed to be in her early 60's- with gray hair and wrinkles. She was taking orders from the customers, but was slow at it; she kept glancing worriedly to the back of the shop- where the fresh smell of dough was coming from. I step next to the person ordering, the people in line shouting angrily. I ignore them.
"Need help?'' I ask the woman. She let out a sigh of relief.
"Yes come to the back we have some spare aprons. I just need you to take orders and place them in order on the counter." she tells me, while pointing to the neatly lined orders along the counter's edge. she finishes up the current order, while I leap over the counter and grab an white apron, hanging on the wall. I tie the apron on and hurry over to where she was taking orders. She places a pen and notepad in my hand, before going to the back of the bakery with an order to fulfill.
I start to go through the long line of people to take their orders. The woman and who ever else was in the back of the bakery, continuously baking; after about an hour, every customer was served and out the door.
A gray haired man, who was about 5' 8"walked out, holding the woman's hand.
"Thank you so much for helping us today! We just wanted to ask; was this a one time thing or would you like to work here?" the woman questioned. Behind her eyes, you could see a little bit of excitement.
"I wouldn't mind working here to be honest." I reply with a shrug. Her face lighting up in a smile. Both her, and the man declare in unison "You're hired!"
The woman continued to explain what my job there would consist of, while the man cleaned up the small shop. It was getting dark outside, streaks of red and orange scattering across the sky. After about half an hour of the woman just going over the needed information, she finally introduced herself.
"Oh! I almost forgot to introduce myself! I'm Akira, and that is my husband Daisuke. You are...?"
"I'm y/n." I state with a small smile.
"Glad to meet you, y/n. We're going to head home now- so we need to lock up." Akira informs me. I give her a nod and take off the apron hanging it back up where I found it, before walking out of the store.
I start down the street towards a hotel I saw the other day. As I pass by the alley between the bakery and the neighboring store, I feel a strong grip on my arm, and I'm yanked into it. I yelp in surprise and turn to kick them away; but then I see who the arm-yanker culprit is. (drum roooolllll pleassseeee~) It's Illumi. I take a deep breath, sighing.
"Holy shit, you scared me there." I enunciate the 'holy'. he gives me a small nod and what looked to be a small smile.
"sorry." he pats my head, his face going blank again.
After a few head pats, he finally starts up a conversation.
"How are you doing?" he asks.
"I'm good how about you?"
"good..."
He looks like he wants to say something else, but can't find the right words.
"Can I help you with something?" I ask him with one eyebrow raised. He nods his head before speaking up.
"uhm... will you go out with me?" his face turns a light shade of pink as he looks at my face. What the frick frack diddly dack pattywack snick snack crack pack slack mack quarterback crackerjack blofeedback backtrack thumbtack sidetrack tic-tac? why would Illumi ask me of all people out? What does he mean, by "out?"
"on a date?" I try to clarify, confused. I had never thought he would like me in that sort of way.
"uhm, yeah." he nods his head, glancing away, rubbing the back of his head awkwardly, the blush still across his face.
He's nice, and it would make sense to at least try it out. I mean I might as well.
"sure." I give him a small smile, the blush on his face darkening, as he nods.
"okay. tomorrow then?" he responds after a moment.
"sure. where would we go?" I ask.
"I know a nice restaurant." he stats his blush starting to fade.
"okay. what time?"
"around 6. I'll call you before hand? also- where something formal." he recommends.
"okay. see you then." he nods and turns quickly, walking into the darkness of the alley. I turns walking out of the alley. I have a weird feeling someone is watching me. I glance around, activating gyo but can't see anyone. I choose to shrug it off as I go to the hotel get a room.
