"car rides to Malibu"

-----

"What are we gonna do?!" the Slytherin captain, Hector Flint, shouted like a madman.

"CRUSH GRYFFINDOR TO A PULP!" they chanted.

"What are we gonna do?!"

"CRUSH GRYFFINDOR TO A PULP!"

"Good," Hector remarked. "Seems like all of you got the message. Break!"

The Slytherin team broke from the huddle and Avalon exited the locker rooms with Regulus Black, both of them having a broom in hand.

Regulus was Sirius' younger brother. It was obvious, since they had many similar features. Regulus had black hair, but his was short and curly, and he also had grey eyes, but his were lighter. They reached the wooden benches and Avalon set her broom down.

She started to fix the straps of her fingerless gloves on her hands nervously. Regulus passed the handle of his broom back and forth in between his hands as he watched the Gryffindor team exit from their locker room.

"Do you suppose they'll beat us?" Regulus asked. "With Sirius as Beater and Potter as their starting Chaser- not to mention, they've got the princess, Alice Fortesque and there's McLaggen- I mean, look at McLaggen. He's fucking large. Do we even stand a chance, Lonnie?"

"Have faith, Reg," Avalon remarked. "They're not as strong as they come off. And even if they were, they can't be better than us. We've been practicing our whole lives for this."

"So have the Gryffindors," Regulus said hesitantly. "Been hearing Sirius over the summer, mumbling in his room about how Potter's been practicing since he was six. We've never even seen him play."

"We've been practicing since we were four," she huffed. "We're ready. Just do what Flint says. We take out Fortesque and Longbottom. Then we go for Potter. One Beater down and two Chasers out of the way- they don't stand a chance."

"I don't know about this, Lonnie," Regulus mumbled unsurely. "This is our first game-"

"And this is Flint's hundredth," Avalon assured. "He knows what to do."

"We've never seen Potter or Black in play-"

"We got this, Reg," Avalon said firmly. "You know what to do."

-----

Avalon had the Quaffle tucked under her arm but she lost grip when a Bludger zipped right past her. The Quaffle fell into the hands of James Potter, who was right beneath her and he flew in the opposite direction, towards the Slytherin Keeper.

Sirius flew beside Avalon, who scowled.

"You are such a little fucker."

"You sound more and more like my mother every day," Sirius drawled boredly. "If it makes you feel any better, I wasn't aiming for you. Just trying to play the game, Av."

"Kinda seems like you're trying to kill me, not play the game," she hissed.

"If I was trying to kill you, I could've aimed for your head," he assured. "I'll see you at the party in the Gryffindor common room, yeah?"

"There is no party in the Gryffindor common room!" Avalon shouted. She sped off in the direction of James Potter and tried to grab the Quaffle back.

-----

"I'll see you at the party then?" Sirius asked with a smug smirk. Avalon rolled her eyes.

"You're so annoying," she huffed dramatically. Regulus did catch the Snitch but not before one of the Slytherin Chasers was knocked out of the air and the Gryffindor Chasers got in the lead. So, no, Slytherin didn't win.

"You love me," Sirius bragged. Avalon didn't reply and Sirius grinned even more. "You loooove meee, you love love loooove me-"

"Shut it," Avalon scoffed. "I need to go back to my dorm but I'll see you in the common room-"

"In the Gryffindor common room. At the Gryffindor party," he clarified. "Because Gryffindor won-"

"Fuck you," she remarked.

"Everyone wants to these days, darling," Sirius playfully smirked.

"Lonnie!" Regulus shouted, grabbing the attention of Sirius and Avalon.

"That's my cue," Avalon sighed, gripping the handle of her broom even tighter. "See you later."

"Go on with the blood supremacists," Sirius urged. "Go leave me, lil 'ol me behind. The blood traitor of the Black family, the black sheep- if you will. The ravishingly handsome, showstopping, fit black sheep... how could someone ever leave me? But if you must."

"Bye," the blonde said blankly.

"Wait- wait, come back!" Sirius called after her as she walked to Regulus. "No, my dearest, Rosier, what am I to do without you?! I'm hopeless, I'm alone- I need you, I want you, oh dear Rosier, my dear Rosier-"

"Shut it!" Regulus yelled, turning around to shout at his older brother. "Bloody annoying." He wrapped his arm around Avalon's shoulders protectively and they walked to the locker rooms together.

"He's just joking," Avalon assured.

"You shouldn't be talking to him, in general," he stated angrily. "Mother's bound to disown him soon and you don't want to be involved with that mess in the slightest bit. Been trying to distance myself from him too. Sirius is on thin ice."

"He must be a professional figure skater then," she joked. Regulus was still mad, so he didn't laugh or smile in the slightest.

"Sirius is gonna get what's coming to him one day," Regulus warned. "He thinks everything's all fun and games, sunshine and rainbows- he doesn't know anything. The world is much more cruel than his idiotic band of friends."

"We don't have to think about the world now," Avalon assured. "The next four years- well, five for you, are meant to be the best years of our lives. We should enjoy this."

"Yeah, before we all die," Regulus huffed.

"You're twelve, Reg," she pointed out. "We don't need to be thinking about death right now."

"Death happens no matter how young or how old you are," Regulus said. "Sirius' karma is going to kick him in the arse one day, I just know it."

"Morbid," Avalon stated.

"Accurate," he shot back.

They walked into the locker rooms and Avalon separated from Regulus as she opened her locker beside his.

"You know, nine centuries later, and there's still no girls locker room for Slytherins," Avalon commented. "I bring this up every time, Flint!"

"And every time, I tell you, Dumbledore refuses to fund us!" Flint called from a shower stall. "Maybe if we win the Quidditch Cup, or the House Cup for once, then maybe he'll talk to us about girls lockers!"

"It's been so long since a girl even got onto the Slytherin team," Regulus muttered, "so there's really been no reason to have a girls locker room before this."

"And I ask you, Reg, why aren't there girls on this team? It's probably because they knew there weren't lockers for them," Avalon huffed. "If I knew that before I tried out-"

"You still would've tried out," he laughed, shaking his head. "Don't even try it, Lonnie."

"I hate that you know me so well," she replied. Avalon grabbed her bag out of the locker and swung it around her shoulder. "I'll be in my dorm if anyone needs me."

"Is that an invitation?" Regulus mocked, cocking an eyebrow.

"Such a fucker," Avalon muttered as she walked away.

"I heard that!" he shouted.
