"now i bet you even tell her how you love her"

-----

"Okay," Avalon said after a few minutes of her awkwardly staring at Sirius and Sirius awkwardly staring at her.

"So.."

"I didn't mean it," Avalon burst out. She did mean it. Of course she fancied Sirius. Who didn't fancy Sirius Black? Was she insane to think that he might fancy her too? Yes. But did that stop her from believing it? Hell no!

And here she was, finally confessing her feelings for her best friend. And then he just said that he didn't fancy her either, when he clearly said that he fancied her an hour ago.

"Okay. I didn't mean it when I said it before," Sirius said casually. "It was a 'in the moment' kind of thing."

"Yeah, I get it," Avalon lied. "I didn't want you to feel bad about fancying me."

"So you were going to lie and say that you did fancy me?"

Avalon's face went red. "I mean, yeah, but I don't know what I would've done if you did fancy me," she bluffed. "It would totally ruin our friendship and this dynamic we have."

"I agree completely," he nodded. "I'm glad we got that cleared up."

"Yeah."

"Do you want to come in?" Sirius asked, moving aside. "We could listen to Billy Joel while I eat dinner."

"Sure," Avalon said quietly. She passed Sirius as she walked in and moved over to his bed. Some of his belongings were laying on the ground but she didn't ask about it.

Sirius closed the door and brought the plate of food over to his bed. He got out the record player from under his bed and opened it. He picked out a Billy Joel vinyl and held it up for Avalon to see, to which she silently nodded in approval. They both smiled at each other.

It's such a shame they were both such good liars.

"AND SLYTHERIN TAKES THE WIN! 380 TO 60!"

Avalon flew down and pat Regulus on the back, both of them grinning widely. Regulus looked at the snitch resting in his palms.

"Did you see me, Lonnie?" he asked eagerly. "I was like pshhh and I totally beat Diggory by miles! And Diggory's like thousands of years older than me! He's a sixth year!"

"You did great, Reg," Avalon congratulated. "Hufflepuff was an easy win but you really shot over."

"Thanks," he mumbled, looking down as he blushed. "That means a lot coming from you."

"I give applause where it's due," she said.

Avalon heard someone call her name and she turned around. Avalon waved off the rest of the team as she jogged over to where Sirius was waiting.

"You did spectacular," he complimented with a smile.

"Spectacular's a big word," the blonde teased. "Did you go into the school dictionary for that one?"

"Ha ha, very funny," Sirius retorted sarcastically, still smiling. "Seriously, though. You did good."

"Thanks," Avalon said, still catching her breath. "Is that my jacket?" She motioned towards the green jacket in Sirius' hand and he held it up.

"Yeah, I wanted to give it back before I forget," the Gryffindor said. "It doesn't fit anyways so I thought there's no use of having it lying around in my dorm." Sirius handed it to her, to which Avalon grabbed it with both hands.

"I suppose you don't really need me around, either," Sirius added. "I was only in the stands for fifteen minutes or so, and you seemed to be doing fine before I came."

"A good luck charm isn't supposed to make dreams come true, it's supposed to encourage them," Avalon said. Sirius raised his eyebrows.

"Good luck charms are dumb," he stated. "I don't think we should be each other's good luck charms anymore." Avalon frowned. "I mean, it's not like they actually help. They're stupid."

"I guess," she shrugged, brushing off the hurt she felt inside. "Well, then, consider us officially not each other's good luck charms anymore." Sirius nodded. "I have to go change now, but there's a Slytherin party in the common room. You're welcome to come."

"Nah," Sirius shook his head. "You know how I feel about Slytherin territories."

"Okay." Avalon forced herself to smile. "I'll drop your jacket off sometime tomorrow then."

"Sounds good," he responded. "Adios, fucker."

The mention of fucker kind of reminded Avalon of their relationship before their almost kiss and their real kiss, which made her smile a little. Even though Sirius was being kind of distant, he seemed to still want to establish their old relationship again, and that was good because so did Avalon.

"Hasta manana, fucker," she shot back with a grin.

Avalon waved him goodbye as she walked over to the entrance of the locker rooms.

-----

Avalon didn't know whether or not Sirius really fancied her but her mind seemed to keep going back to it. 'In the moment' kind of thing- what does that even mean? If it was in the moment, he would've said 'I fancy you' instead of 'the person I fancy is you' because earlier, she did ask about who he was practicing snogging for and that was the answer to her question.

Did he really fancy her? And if so, why would he lie about it later on? And why did he give her his jacket back? She had so many questions that she couldn't get the answers to because Sirius was so cryptic all the time, even when he seemed like an open book.

And now, a week later, all of their encounters were different. There was always some kind of awkward tension with them and Avalon was always afraid that she would say the wrong thing.

It was so easy when neither of them fancied each other. She wished they could go back to that and forget about their confessions, but it wasn't that easy.

Avalon walked through the halls by herself, on her way to the schoolyard to finish work. An arm draped around her shoulders casually and she followed the arm up until it matched to a face.

"Hi," she greeted. "Just finishing classes?"

"Finished a while ago," Regulus hummed. "I was just aimlessly walking around for a good half hour. Slughorn let us out really early. I reckon it's because he's scared of us or because he wants to get on our good sides."

"Us?"

"Slytherins," he deadpanned. "My Potions class is mostly Slytherins."

"Ah," Avalon said, nodding.

"I could practically sense the fear coming off of him. It's very easy to identify the weak," Regulus said in a matter of fact tone.

"Mhm."

"So, since I've got nothing else on my schedule until dinner, I was thinking I could practice some Quidditch. You know, help me get better," Regulus proposed. "And when I thought about Quidditch, you were the first to come into my mind."

"I'm honored," the blonde smiled sweetly. "I was going to do some homework but who cares about that when you're rich?"

"Exactly. Finally someone who has the same mindset as me," he grinned. "Rich, Slytherin, and pure. The big three. So, Quidditch?"

Avalon looked around quickly to see if Sirius was anywhere to be found and she spotted him by a nearby pillar, but he seemed busy, talking to another girl who appeared to be the same age.

Avalon felt jealousy build up inside her and she turned to Regulus, choosing to ignore one of her less attractive features.

"Lead the way."
