"Quidditch jacket," Avalon said, presenting the crimson red jacket to Sirius. He nodded gratefully and took his jacket back. Sirius hung his jacket on his chair while Avalon still stood at the doorway of his dorm.
"So, I was thinking," she continued hopefully, "Hogsmeade this weekend. We can sneak into Zonko's and Honeydukes again."
"I wish we could," Sirius replied, "but I already promised Katie that I would take her."
"Katie," Avalon repeated, her voice cracking. She tried her best to sound disinterested because Sirius never really talked to her about who he associated himself with. "That's a new one."
"Yeah, um, Katie O'Brien," he said. "You might've heard of her. She's a third year Hufflepuff."
"An older girl," Avalon noted. "That's great. Do you like her?"
"Yeah, I like her. She's a pretty girl, and she seems nice," Sirius confirmed. Avalon nodded.
"I guess I could just hangout with Regulus," she shrugged. "It's not a big deal." Avalon liked Regulus. He was nice and sure, maybe Regulus wasn't her favorite Black brother, but she'd have to settle if Sirius didn't want her around.
"Regulus? When did you start hanging out with my little brother?"
"Since always," she said. "You probably just never noticed. He's better for me, since he is a Slytherin." Sirius clenched his jaw and forced a smile onto his face as he nodded.
"Well, good for you," the dark-haired boy said stiffly. "Katie's probably better for me too because my parents would just love it if I associated myself with a Slytherin. With a respectable name."
"Yeah, it's such a shame that I like doing as I'm told," Avalon remarked coldly. "Regulus knows where he stands, and you should learn that too."
Sirius narrowed his eyes at Avalon.
Honestly, Avalon didn't know how they got to this. They were always very close, despite having to hide their friendship, and although they still have good times together, they grew farther apart. Avalon didn't like that at all but she didn't know how to stop it.
"I hope you're happy with him."
Avalon never looked at Regulus as more than a friend but Sirius clearly looked at Katie as more of a friend, so two could play that game, even if Avalon didn't like the game.
"Well, I hope you're happy with Katie," the blonde retorted. "Sayonara, fucker."
"Hasta luego, fucker."
They both falsely smiled, masking their clearly broken friendship. Avalon stormed off while Sirius slammed his door loudly.

Avalon practiced Quidditch with Regulus throughout most of her weekend, and on that Sunday evening, she saw Sirius sitting in the stands. Avalon was distracted by him, giving Regulus the upper hand. He caught the snitch easily and flew towards Avalon.
"Remember, it's best to stay away from him," Regulus reminded her, not bothering to look over at Sirius. He seemed to already know that Sirius was the one watching them.
"Okay, but just this once," Avalon pleaded. "And then I won't make it a habit of conversing with him."
"He's the enemy," Regulus said stiffly, "but alright. I won't tell anyone. Just finish your little conversation in a few minutes. I'll wait for you outside the locker room."
