It was just a normal day in the Glade, the sun was roaring, the boys and you at work and the grieves on the hunt.
However, today, Alby had asked you to help Newt out instead. It was a wonder why but Alby insisted so you obediently did so. Not only because Alby was your "leader" but because he was also your older brother as you had found out a few days after you entered the Glade. Long story really.
You walked up to Newt excitedly. Before he could notice you, you jumped onto his back, "Boo!"
Jumping a height you weren't aware was possible, Newt exclaimed, "Slinthead! You know my leg still isn't healed!"
"Oh shuck, I forgot." You looked down pitifully.
"Yeah, seems that's all you do nowadays, shank." Newt's breathing slowed down until he was calm. He looked back up to you, tears were threatening to pour out of your eyes. "Sorry, Y/n. I shouldn't be so harsh. Come here." He opened his arms out beckoning you into his embrace.
You willingly wrapped your arms around Newt. "I'm sorry too, Newt." As you both pulled away, he scoffed and places on arm over your shoulder, slyly pulling you into a headlock. "Hey!" You yelped, giggling. In his normal brotherly fashion, he gave you a noogie.
All the boys in the Glade were like older brothers, apart from one but he was special. You believed them all to be like this because of Alby. Alby was in fact the strongest and most intimidating of them all, apart from Gally, your special boy.
"All right, knock it off klunkhead!" You pulled Newt over your shoulder, using all your strength you pinned him down while also being careful to not injure his leg further. "Ah-hah!"
A loud chuckle came from above you both. "Looks like Y/N's gotten stronger than you Newt. Not like when they first joined, are you?" Gally offered you his hand and you gratefully took it.
Admiring the boy in front of you, you noticed how perfectly the sun bounced off his normally tanned face. He looked godly this morning, not like he didn't look like that every morning but just especially today.
Before you knew it, you were pulled out of your trance. It appeared you were now face planting the mud. After rolling onto your back, you saw the two boys laughing to each other and high-fiving.
"Though, they can never seem to remember rule one of fighting. Never turn your back on the opponent." Newt was on his feet and you quickly gathered he was the reason your face was patched with dirt.
You wiped your face clean and stood up, quickly taking in the height difference between the boys and you. It was a surprise every time you stood next to either of them. Huffing, you regained some of your pride and got the remaining dirt off your hands while ignoring the rest of the boys' conversation.
"Good that, right Y/N?" Newt interrupted you.
In sudden confusion, you nodded. The boys parted their ways, leaving you stranded. You weren't sure what had just happened, what they had agreed on or what you were supposed to do now. Gally called to you, understanding quickly, to come and help him with repairing the homestead.
As you reached him, he scoffed. "Not listening again?"
"Oh, slim it." You smiled playfully. "So what should I do?"
Swiftly, Gally explained the plan for the repairs. You were with him working on the front while the other boys worked upstairs. Sounds good. You pick up a hammer too fast, accidentally dropping it too close to Gally.
Warningly, he raised his eyebrows and you awkwardly tried smiling. "Yeah, maybe you shouldn't handle those. Here." He gave you a box of nails. "We'll work together."
Nodding enthusiastically, you followed him to the door of the homestead. When you reached it, he gestured you to the door. "Huh?" You accidentally let out.
Gally rolled his eyes laughing softly. "Here, let me show you." He dropped his hammer and gathered your hand in his. He picked a nail out of the box and placed it on the broken entrance. "Hold this here." He dropped the nail into your outstretched hand that he was gripping fragilely and you quickly mimicked his gesture.
Walking away, he parted from you and you felt the slightest bit of sadness as you felt the cool air surround your hand, where his was only seconds before. When Gally returned, he had his hammer. You quickly understood what your job was and retracted your hand away swiftly.
You stumbled backwards and tripped. "Ah, finally. You understand. Took you long enough." Gally giggled.
"No way! You are not hammering my fingers into the homestead!" You quickly got to your feet and put the nail back into the fallen box. Crossing your arms, you gave Gally your usual stubborn look.
"What, you don't trust me, Y/n?" Gally tried sounding hurt but he failed and erupted into a chuckle. "I'd let you do it yourself but I like my bones not broken." After showing off and flipping the hammer up then catching it with ease, he picked the nails up and began doing it himself.
Guilt filled your stomach even though he was joking. Of course you trusted Gally. "I do trust you, Gally. But I prefer not having a hammer merely centimetres away from my fingers. No matter who's behind it."
Gally stopped working and laughed. He dropped the box on the ground, walking over to you with the hammer in his hand. "I know. Well, we can't have you doing nothing." His spare hand slid around your waist and he gently tugged you over to the door.
"What are you doing?" You were suspicious but you knew he knew what he was doing.
"What's the word... Compromising." A grin crept onto Gally's adorable face. He pulled his hand away from your waist and traced it down from your elbow to your hand concluding in wrapping it around the hammer while also wrapping his own around yours. He let your hand go, picked up a nail, handed it you and then finally returned his hand back to your waist. "When you're ready, darling." His words snaked soothingly into your ear while leaning onto a stable spot of the building.
It sent a chill down your spine, so you had to take a minute to breathe. Out of your peripheral vision, you could see his smirk. He knew what he was doing. He had always known you had a crush on him since you entered the Glade. But whenever asked about it, he'd play dumb. Slinthead.
You threw the hammer back and then thrusted it forward, landing it quite far away from the nail and a lot closer to Gally's hand. He didn't jump or flinch. You turned your head quickly to Gally's (who'd been staring at you since handing the nail over), "I know you. You wouldn't hurt me." He looked deep into your eyes.
You both faced each other, your faces only inches away and slowly those inches turned into centimetres. As your lips were about to conjoin, you heard a loud, booming voice behind you.
"Y/N! WHAT THE KLUNK ARE YOU DOING?" Alby shouted from about three metres away. You and Gally quickly separated as he approached. "Well!" He shouted with his arms crossed.
From behind him, you saw Newt limp-running towards you. As he saw Alby in front of you and Gally, he quit and wafted his arm in the air.
"This is the reason I got you to work with Newt! To keep you two away from each other for just one morning! That's all i shucking ask for!" Alby sighed into his hand. "Gally, if I find you with my sister alone one more time, it's the pit for you. Got it?"
Grinning playfully, Gally saluted, "Yes, sir."
"You, Y/n. Come help me with this damned map." Alby pointed to you and began walking away.
Before you left, you jumped onto your tip toes and kissed Gally's cheek. Ending in one loud yell from Alby and a very red Gally. Worth it.
