"You- You what?" Gally's voice cracked and before you gave him time to register what you'd just said, you ran. You ran as fast as you could and you didn't stop. Not until you met the top of the tallest tree or the bottom of the deepest lake; you just needed to get out of there.

Eventually you found a tree, miraculously hanging onto it's life in the sandy conditions. All in all, it looked strong so you began to climb. As you did so, tears fell from your face, many tears fell. Probably enough to restore the tree's life completely but you'd not get your hopes up.

Never again would hope be on your side.

Looking up at the stars, you did the only thing possible. You thought to yourself about everything and anything in that moment. You'd kissed Gally but you already had a boyfriend. Technically though Gally was also still your boyfriend but he was dead. Well, he WAS dead.

Sniffling, you lead back against a branch and closed your eyes. Maybe you'd wake up and it'd all be a dream. Yeah, maybe.

"Y/N!" A distant voice caused you to sit up straight, your eyes widen and your hands shake. The sun had risen and sweat beaded against your forehead as you looked through the thin branches to wherever the sound was coming from. Below you.

"Y/N, please come down." Newt's voice pleaded with you. "Everyone's worried sick, especially me, love." He peered up, looking betrayed.

"Newt, I- I'm sorry."

You heard a sigh. "Listen, come down so we can talk about it. I'm not bloody mad but I'd prefer if you were on solid ground while I'm talking to you, yeah?"

Nodding your head, you slowly swung down, landing nervously in front of the tall, blonde boy you thought you'd grown to love. His perfectly sculpted face, tensed and looked you up and down a minute. Then, you realised you probably looked a complete state and tears threatened your already sore eyes.

Making eye contact with you, Newt reached out to your face. He gently pulled away a stray branch that had ended up in your hair. Smiling slightly, Newt whispered under his breath, "C'mere." Quickly, he hugged you.

His arms felt like a cover of protection from the world, safe. As if nothing could ever harm you. Also with those affects came a craving. An addiction. Maybe that's why you had loved him. Swallowing a lump in your throat you wrapped your arms around his waist, pulling him closer as you sobbed into his chest. Whatever it was, you needed it right there and then.

"Newt, I'm sorry. I'll be better, it was just seeing Gally..."

"Stop." He choked. "I understand Y/N. It's okay." You pulled away only slightly to look up at him. "Yes, I said it was okay. Anyone in your position would be stuck right now and whatever next steps you choose, I'll be next to you every time." He gave you a weak smile.

That was when you knew you'd met an angel. Maybe an angel you didn't deserve but you knew that you owed Newt big time. Smiling, you pulled Newt towards you, holding onto him tight as you cried happy tears into his chest quietly.

"Y/N! I need to breathe!" He gasped in your grip, laughing slightly as you let go.

"Thank you, Newt. For everything." You smiled at him, holding onto his hands, while looking straight at him.

You noticed a tear in his eye, unable to fall for both of your sakes. Newt gave you a small nod before looking back in the direction he came from. "Now go. Somebody's waiting for you."

You looked at him. Seeing his breakdown about to let go, you decided to leave before you embarrassed him more. Guiltily, you let your head hang after giving Newt a goodbye and running off into the distance, leaving the boy standing next to your tree. Now, maybe that's the reason the tree's still living. So many tears have been shed, it's given life.

Looking back, you saw the boy facing the tree, one hand against the trunk and the other left to swing by his side. Sniffling, you felt sick. You'd broken an angel who wasn't yours to take in the first place and you knew you'd never, ever, be able to forgive yourself. Still, as you walked backwards, you saw a tear drop from his face as he crouched down.

Punishing yourself enough, you turned away. Now, you walked slower.

Knowing that you'd instantly light up when you saw him, you decided to let yourself feel guilty and shitty. Even if it was for a small time only, you deserved to feel was Newt was feeling. It was your fault. Hard to forget really.

Sighing as you got to the compound, you opened the door sheepishly. Your eyes wandered around the packed room before meeting another set of eyes. One you'd always loved since you could remember. Gally.

Bringing yourself back to reality, you looked around the busy room and gestured to Gally to follow you somewhere more private. He understood instantly and said goodbye to the few people he was talking to.

In that moment, you realised your hands were still shaking and tightly tensed them as Gally followed discreetly behind you, playing an act in front of all these people he'd known for so long. As he got to your side, his hand met yours quickly and you held that instead, both of you pretending not to notice.

As you found your way into a little room with books stacked against a single wall. Completely empty, Gally turned to you. Desperately, he cupped your face and kissed you. His hands slowly went down your neck, and to your waist as he pulled you into a hug, closer to him.

"Gally." You looked up at him. "I missed you so much."

A tear rolled down his cheek as he let you go, sitting in a spare chair. "You know Y/N, I waited every day for you. You were the only thing on my mind during those missions."

You sniffled at his words.

Gally paused then started again, "You still mean everything to me and I just have one question." He sighed, wiping his cheek. "Do you love me again?"

"Gally, you shank, I think I never stopped loving you." Your words flowed like water, as if it'd been there all along, blocked from thought. You felt the pang of guilt in your stomach again but Gally quickly approached you, kissing your forehead.

You pulled away gently, looking up at him before lightly kissing the tear that ran down his cheek away. What a perfect moment.
