The morning sun woke you up slowly until you couldn't bare the dawning heat against your eyelids no more. God, why was it so hot. Yawning, you sat up on your hammock. Everything went still, quiet. Apart from the flutter of the morning bird's wings that echoed distantly in the calm. You decided it must still be early.

Finally, you stretched and got to your feet to get dressed. Mid-through you had an idea. Since it was still early, nobody would be over at the lakes. You also knew that the creators made that lake of fresh water and it gets cleaned every night while the Gladers sleep. It was usually used for stocking up the water supply to the Gladers, however Alby had made sure that the farmers had stocked up the previous night for the summer, in case of a drought.

Perfect. You guess being right-hand person to Alby did have it's privileges.

Slowly, you pulled the tank top over your shoulders and quickly threw some shorts on before making your way through the woods. You carried your bag over your shoulder and rubbed your eyes. Once you found the lake, you sat on the edge, leaning back onto your hands while swinging your legs over the side and into the water.

"Morning, beautiful." A voice from behind you muttered.

Turning around, you saw Gally. He was a mediocre-looking dude who had a strange vibe which attracted you strange-enough. You didn't see him much in the Glade, but he was a popular dude for all the wrong reasons. All you knew of him was that he liked to fight, he was in charge and he scared the klunk out of the greenies.

That's why you were taken by surprise when he'd started conversation with you randomly and called you beautiful. You furrowed your eyebrow at the tall boy, confused.

"Can I join?" He smiled sweetly down at you. After a slow nod, he sat next to you while keeping his expression neutral. He caught you staring a second too long and you quickly looked away. Out of your peripheral vision, you saw a small grin on his face.

"So, why're you up so early?" You murmured under your breath.

"Always am, everyone's either asleep or too busy to notice."

Raising your eyebrows, you looked at him. He'd never be this open in front of the other Gladers, what made you so different? Before he looked back at you, you turned your head away and sighed. Probably feeling generous or something.

When the swishing of the water became too uncomfortable, you asked him, "So, what do you do then? In the mornings I mean." Giving him a soft smile, you looked back up at him.

Gally was already looking at you, smiling back. "Go for walks mostly and I end up finding places more gorgeous than this. To say we're stuck in the middle of these four walls, we dont enjoy ourselves enough. A bit of freedom."

You nodded at him, agreeing. "Hey, would you be up for letting me join you and your small treks one time?"

"Anytime." He said. Surprised at his quick response, you huffed. "I'm serious, you know. I hate most of the guys here but you're an exception."

"We've never spoke." You replied bluntly.

"How about now? If you pissed me off, I wouldn't be here still." He edged closer to you slowly, so that your shoulders pretty much collided. "Plus, between you and me, I still remember your first day greenie. We spoke then too, actually. Don't you remember?"

You reflected for a second, remembering the day so long ago. Yet pulled yourself from the day before it could hurt you more than it does today. Instead, you simply nodded at the boy's question.

"No you don't Y/N. Don't lie to me." He rolled his eyes, smiling slightly. Before offering you his hand, Gally stood up. "Come with me. Let me remind you."
