chapter 7: Are you alright?

"....bye for now" Bridget said as I hung up. As I was about to respond a car comes out of nowhere and speeds towards me. I tried swaying out of its way but unfortunately for me I bumped into a tree. "Holy shit!" Was the last thing I said before passing out.

I don't know how or when ,but before I knew it I was being loaded into the back of an ambulance. In no time at all I was at the hospital getting rushed to the ER. I didn't feel like I was in pain at all actually, apart from the blood oozing out of the side of my head. If anything I should just be discharged. As I was about to protest being checked on, the nurses used some gas that made me pass out immediately.

I woke up on a hospital bed and as I was looking around I saw this beautiful girl sitting right beside my bed , resting her head on a pillow. I must have been staring too much when she snapped her fingers in my face. "Are you alright?" She said. Her words took me back ,wow her voice was beautiful just like her. " Don't tell me you've gone mute as well? Can you talk? Do you need some water? " She gestured to the glass on the side table next to her.

I cleared my throat and said " Yeah I'd like some please" my voice was kinda dry, she gave it too me and I finished the entire contents in less than a minute. She stared with amusement and giggled a bit . It almost sounded faint but I heard her.

" Well at least I now know you have a voice. How are you feeling?Are you alright?" She asked once again.

" I'm ok thank you,....I'm sorry who are you by the way?" It was almost as if all the life in her left her body. She seemed shocked by my question. Did I say anything wrong?

Melanie's POV

Did he just  ask me who I was? Nah he's just messing with me. This dude though. Nows not the time for him to be asking me that question.

"Seriously Luke? You're going to pretend like we don't know each other?? Now's not the time ok."

"Luke? Pretend..huh??I'm confused. Who's Luke and who are you?" He asked with the most confused look on his face.

Just as I was about to yell at him for playing this game of his the doctor walks in.

" Well hello there. I'm glad to see you're awake. How do you feel Mr Ross?" The doctor asks kindly.

" Mr Ross? I'm totally lost what's going on here ? Am I supposed to know who you both are? " Luke's seriously not letting this game of his go now is he?

"He's just messing with us right doc?I mean he can't be seriously asking us that is he?" I ask the doctor slightly laughing.

" Oh dear I'm afraid not. Luke suffered a severe head injury which I'm pretty sure led to his amnesia. I can't tell the level of amnesia he has just yet but judging by the fact that he doesn't know both of us it's bad. Wait he does know who you are right?" The doctor asks raising one eyebrow.

" Of course he does. He's my....uhm friend." I lie, honestly I don't know what we both were but I wish we were more.

"Alright then. I'll run a few tests and ask him some questions. I'll be right back". With that the doctor was gone.

"So are you going to tell me who you are or not?" Even with his amnesia this dude is annoying.

"I'm Melanie Smith. One of your friends." I say sheepishly

"Really? I have a friend as hot as you are? Damn . But how did...." He stopped talking. I guess he noticed how red I had turned on my cheeks .

" Oh umh I'm sorry I didn't mean to offend you. I just couldn't help it" he says which caught me off guard and as I was looking at him he looked away.

" No no it's okay. You didn't do anything wrong" I try to assure him but it didn't work. There is a brief silence between us the doctor walks back in.

"Ok I guess we can start. So young man I need you to tell me what you remember about yourself."

"Errr...I guess that my name is Luke Ross, I have a friend named Melanie.... That's about it."

"Not what I MEANT, you didn't know your name until we told you.Tell me details you actually know of like how  you got here . You're family , age and other things that might help." I could clearly see Luke tense up a bit.

" Doc I'd love to help but I seriously don't know anything at all. "

Just then Bridget came in with her mum following behind her. Oh how great, the one family I didn't want to see was here. Fantastic.

Mrs Ross and the doctor step outside to talk about Luke. As they went outside a nurse comes in an puts what I assume is an oxygen mask on Luke's face but only for a few minutes.

Bridget's POV

As we arrive at the hospital we're directed to Luke's room. Dad didn't come with us though which was strange. He said there was a stop he had to make first .

I practically barged into Luke's room and mum followed me in .

" That entrance can send our patients into a heart attack,you should know better. " The doctor scolds me. I apologize and just as I look at Luke's bed I see Melanie next to him. What is she doing here and why didn't Luke call me and not her?!

Doctor Hall walks out to talk to my mum.

"Wow I must really have attractive friends then if you also look this beautiful". I arch my eyebrow and Melanie elbows luke a bit on his side.

"Ow that hurt. I was only complimenting her" He says giggling.

"What the hell is wrong with you dingus?" Clearly pissed by his comment.

" Apparently he's suffering from amnesia and well doesn't remember quiet well." Melanie explains. I still don't like that girl. She's the reason my brother got into a lot of trouble in high school.

"Dingus?.... I've heard that before", said Luke while contemplating about it.

Just then mum and doctor Hall walk in. Both with questioning looks on their faces, I explain what happened.

"Ok so let's continue where we ended. While I was out did you remember anything new?"

"Take your time hunny, don't rush it ok. We're all here for you"mum finally spoke up.

" Oh my word please don't tell me that's my girlfriend, I mean super model type of person but please don't" Luke says shocked. Melissa and I look at him then at mum and we couldn't help but burst out into laughter. Wow this guy is unbelievable.

" Relax.... she's your ....mother " Melanie manages to say between words.

" Yes I am. Hey wait what's wrong with dating me?" Mum asks curiously

"You're old. Don't get me wrong but you're just not my type. Besides, if anyone should claim they're dating me here it's Mel" he giggles.

"Whatever, I wouldn't date you even if you weren't my son." Mum says clearly offended . "I'm going to find your father "and she leaves the room.

"Well then that went well, shall we continue?"

The doctor and Luke continue asking each other questions and this whole time Melanie sat quietly blushing.

"Alright then that's it for the questions. It's time to run some tests"

"Can we do so later,right now I'm trying to process everything." Luke says

"Ok sure, Ms Ross please come with me to fill out some files"doc Hall instructs me. Can't mum and dad do that?
I follow her out anyway leaving the two behind.

So apparently luke got involved in a car accident and lost his memory. When he wakes up his ex is there somehow.
