Luke woke up in a sterile hospital room, the rhythmic beeping of machines the only sound breaking the silence. He stared at the white ceiling, confusion swirling in his mind. His body ached, and his head felt like it was wrapped in fog. As he tried to sit up, a nurse entered, her face a mask of professional concern.

"How are we feeling today, Mr. Ross?" she asked gently.

Luke opened his mouth to respond but realized he had no idea who he was. His memories were blank, as if someone had wiped them clean. The nurse's sympathetic eyes revealed that she knew something he didn't. His family was already aware of his condition, but he felt like a stranger in his own life. Days turned into weeks as Luke struggled with his new reality. His sister, Bridget, his parents, and his ex-girlfriend, Melanie, visited him frequently, but their presence only deepened his sense of disconnection. He felt like he was living someone else's life. Something just wasn't right.

Luke  sat in his hospital room on his bed, his gaze fixed on the view outside the window. The city skyline, once familiar, now felt distant and foreign. His recovery had been a jigsaw puzzle of half-formed memories and unresolved emotions. As he worked to piece together his past, the gaps only seemed to grow wider. The door creaked open, and Chris, Luke's father, walked in. Chris's presence was imposing, his face etched with a coldness that Luke had come to recognize all too well. He took a seat with a deliberate slowness, his eyes devoid of warmth. "How are you holding up?" Chris's voice was devoid of genuine concern, a sharp contrast to the false calm he tried to project. Luke turned to face him, feeling a knot of tension tighten in his chest. "I'm managing. I've been trying to understand more about what happened, but there's still so much missing." Chris's expression remained stoic, but Luke could sense an underlying tension. "You should focus on your recovery. The past isn't something you need to dwell on. "Luke's eyes narrowed. "That's easy for you to say. I've been learning about my past, and I've come across something troubling—rumors about my memory loss being induced."

Chris's face tightened, and he shifted in his chair. "I'm sure you've misunderstood. Who could have possibly lied to you like that?"

"No, I haven't," Luke said firmly. "I've spoken to people, and it's clear that my memory loss wasn't just a result of the accident. It was deliberate. Those guys Bogus and Titan....whatever their names are were literally talking about it with one of the doctors three hours ago. They probably thought I was sleeping." His father's demeanor hardened further, and he looked away. "Those imbeciles" he said to himself. While he continued looking away from his son, he walked towards the window and stood there, also looking at the view outside but with no purpose at all. "Lucas there are just things you don't understand. The decision was made with your best interests in mind." Luke's heart pounded. "Best interests? You had no right to make that choice for me. Why would you do something like this??"

Chris's eyes finally met Luke's, and there was an icy resolve in his gaze. "Because I couldn't stand the thought of you continuing to be a burden. Your accident was a mess—one more problem in a long line of disappointments." The words hit Luke like a physical blow. "A burden? Is that all I was to you? Just a problem to be dealt with? I thought I was your son?" Chris's voice was cold and unforgiving. "You never lived up to my expectations. I thought that by erasing the painful memories, you might be able to start over, become someone I could respect. The only son I have is long gone". Luke's breath came in sharp gasps. The betrayal cut deep. "You did this out of spite, not care. You wanted to erase me, not help me."Chris's face remained impassive. "You don't understand. I was tired of your failures, your constant disappointments. I thought if I could reset things, maybe you could become the person I always wanted you to be." At that very moment all reminders of his father and misery that comes with those memories hit Luke like a flood. The insults, yelling, beatings, older memories of the once loving father he used to have came back to him at once. The anger and hurt that had been simmering inside Luke now boiled over. "So you decided to play God with my life? You took away my past, my memories, and for what? To satisfy your own twisted sense of control?"Chris stood up, his face a mask of steely resolve. "I did what I thought was best. If you can't see that, then maybe you're beyond help."
