The chapter you have all been waiting for ...
Stupid Sterling.
And his big mouth...
...and my brain, because now I was standing here in pretty much darkness, feeling his shoulder brush against mine, the warmth creeping against me while I patiently waited as the bidding went on.
Was he purposefully tapping his fingers impatiently against my waist, or was he doing it on purpose knowing that it was sending silent shivers of warmth into my body. The man was making my mind cloudy, and I didn't like it.
"One million!"
The roar of cheers from the crowd was still numbed out when all I could think about was Sterling. My stomach felt warm and I wasn't sure if it was from all the alcohol or the pure presence of being so close to Sterling, in near darkness yet not being able to kiss him.
Sure one million for that master piece was well worth it, but you know what else was worth it? Feeling Sterling's lips on mine, a few months ago I never would have thought I would be saying that out loud.
"You alright?"
"Hmm?" I turned slightly to look at Sterling.
"You're fidgeting," the fingers on my waist slightly tightened as he spoke, "Do you want me to find a seat?"
I shook my head, "No, I'm fine. Just tired."
Sterling's arm slid across from my waist, his finger tips spreading against my stomach, now way too big for this tight dress, and sending warmth through my body when he pulled me back towards him, my back leaning against his chest as his arm stayed on my stomach.
"Close your eyes, have a nap," he whispered, I could feel the breathe on my neck and I nodded. Right, nap, I could have scoffed, sure I could nap while there were so many people around us.
I let myself relax, and lean back against him, letting his support hold me, it made my feet feel better from these stupid heels that were finally starting to hurt the sole of my feet. I wriggled my toes, yep I could still feel them so the shoe strap hadn't cut off all circulation yet.
I reached up, tracing my hand over Sterling's arm to find his fingers, and interlocking them on top, letting both our palms rest against my stomach. Maybe I could nap after all, he was so warm, cozy and I was starting to fall asleep. I didn't think he would be so comfortable to lean up against, but he was. The only thing annoying was the button of his jacket, digging right into my upper spine.
I wriggled, and now all I felt was pure cushioned muscle. I felt his other hand move, slipping up to hold my waist, feeling his chin on my shoulder.
How much longer was this bloody auction?
I sighed, I was definitely going to fall asleep now, it felt like I was being embraced by a big cushioning blanket.
"Do you want to get a drink?" Sterling asked after a few moments.
Maybe a soft drink would keep me up. When he untangled himself from me, I felt instant cold. I was getting to cosy in that spot, a drink really should wake me up. Sterling still kept his arm around me as he led me through the crowd and out of the room, it was even colder in the corridors.
"Where are all the waiters?" I asked trying to spot on, but before I could finish my sentence, Sterling pushed open a door and pulled me behind him. I stumbled not so elegantly in behind him, right into his arms.
"What are you-," the door clicked shut behind me, and I felt the door a against my back as his warm body collided with mine, pressing me in-between them like a sandwich.
