LUNA EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED WHEN SHE FELL TO THE OTHERS AS SHE WRAPPED A STINT AROUND PIPER'S ANKLE.
It was a crude stint, definitely not some of her best work, but they had limited materials, and Luna wasn't the best at attending to injuries. But despite the circumstances she was actually quite proud of her work. Piper looked like she might even be able to handle walking when she was done.
"What happened to the dragon?" Piper asked once she was a little less green. "Where are we?"
Leo suddenly looked very crestfallen and avoided their eyes, as if they'd somehow find some way to blame him. She didn't blame anyone. Just the fates.
Those cruel, wrinkly bitches. Times two.
"I don't know with Festus. He just jerked sideways like he hit an invisible wall and started to fall." Leo said. Then he pointed to a logo on the wall. "As far as where we are... closed car plant. I'm guessing we crash landed in Detroit."
Luna's ears momentarily went fuzzy as she focused her sight on the red logo.
Monocle Motors, Assembly Plant 1.
It didn't look familiar at all, but the sight of that red eye had her stomach churning and her skin crawling. There was no way that their fall could've been a coincidence. Perhaps this was the work of some raging wind spirit. Or even Hera herself, though why she would want to sabotage her own rescue team was beyond her. Gods were confusing like that.
But that eye...
"— her pegasus can't take all of us on his back. And Jason, you can't fly that many people across the country by yourself." Piper was saying when she finally turned away.
"You can fly?" Luna was impressed. "That must be why the three of you got out okay. There's no way you could've survived that drop without any help. I thought it was one of the gods, but... there's a fat chance of that right now."
Jason shook his head. "Yeah I can fly, but like Piper said, there's no way I can fly all the way across the country. Even if we split up. Leo, are you sure the dragon didn't malfunction? I mean, Festus is old, and—"
"And I might not have repaired him right?" Leo finished a little sourly.
"I didn't say that." Jason protested. "It's just— maybe you could fix it."
Luna didn't want to say anything, because she knew she'd doubted the dragon's abilities from the start— actually, she still did— but she could see that Festus meant a lot to Leo and he was really proud of himself for even getting it to work. Besides, it wasn't like he forced the dragon to stop working.
