LUNA'S EARS WERE BUZZING.
She hardly cared where they were, or what their plan to save Piper's dad was, and she knew it sounded cruel because it was— but she'd just lost Archie. Knives were embedded in her heart, and she couldn't pull them out without fear of bleeding out. It hurt like hell. She wasn't in the mood for coffee, especially not in the mood for chocolate scones, but Leo urged her to take one anyway.
"Eat. You need energy." He whispered, looking down at her as she let her head sit on his shoulder.
She wasn't crying anymore, doing so felt like a betrayal to her promise to Archie, but on the inside she was quivering with grief. She wondered if this was what her friends would feel if she died— but the thought only made her feel worse.
She glanced at the scone and turned her nose the other way. Leo sighed heavily, placing it back down onto the plate.
Her mood seemed to be messing with the people around them, because a couple of college students the table over, who had previously been laughing and talking, were suddenly quiet and looked on the verge of tears.
"You wouldn't have any idea what is up with me, would you?" Luna asked Hedge as he ate his sixth doughnut. She lifted her head from Leo's shoulder. "With my blood— my powers. Anything?"
The satyr looked uncomfortable. "I'm sorry, Luna, but I can't help you. I've never heard of demigods having silver blood in their veins."
"I fought for the camp over the years, that was my job. To keep it safe." She didn't notice that the others had gone silent. "There was this moment when I was thirteen... a pair of mechanical bulls attacked camp when Thalia's tree was poisoned."
Jason looked like he wanted to ask something, but Piper shook her head at him.
"They were made of bronze, some of Hephaestus' best work." Luna shook her head. "I was still small and Chiron always hated the idea of me fighting with a sword, because I'm not good with them. But I had to. Arrows were like toothpicks to these things, especially with their though hides. So I did it anyway. And one got me. Nailed me with a horn in my thigh. Hit an artery."
Luna shook her head. She didn't remember this until recently, probably because Mr. D had been there to wipe away the memory. To keep her in the shadows about what the fuck she even was.
"I was close to dying. And I'm pretty sure I would've, had it not been for Mr. D." Luna bit her lip harshly. But how the hell had no one noticed her blood? "I don't think I'm invincible or immortal, especially because Annabeth almost killed me for almost dying. I'm just... confused. What does this mean, Hedge?"
