LUNA DREAMT OF THE SEA.
Or rather, Luna dreamt that she was in it.
She didn't know what coast or even if she was really in the ocean at all, but she was sure she was submerged in water clear as crystal. It was salty on her lips; warm and bubbly against her skin as if she were in a hot tub full of funky shaped coral and striped fish.
Up above her she could barely make out the night sky, the navy universe far above her freckled with stars just like her own skin, a beautiful silver orb she knew as she moon smiling down at her fondly.
She felt how she always did when she sat along the shores of the beach at camp, looking up at the moon when she was overwhelmed or unsure— she felt at ease. Comforted and light, as if the moon were a family member giving her company, knowing that speaking wasn't what she wanted, nor needed. Silence was what she yearned for when she gazed at the sky, her toes digging into the sand still slightly warm from the sun, and so silence is what the moon always gave her.
The moon gave her silence now, but as she swayed in waves and sea foam, the water around her grew hotter and hotter, like she was sitting at the bottom of a pot slowly coming to a boil.
She began to shift, but her body was in dream mode. She couldn't get out of the water; in fact, she couldn't move at all. All of her limbs glued to her sides, and when she tried to scream water clogged her throat. She didn't know if it was tears that were burning and cascading down her cheeks, or just the saltiness of the sea, but it didn't help matters.
A face began to block the moon just as it got worse, removing the one comfort she had.
At first it was the same beautiful woman she'd been dreaming of, with cascading jet black hair and knowing brown eyes, silver tears streaking down her cheeks.
Then her face began to change.
Radiant skin turned dirt caked and flaky, two brown eyes morphed into one, cruel and seeping golden blood at the center of a giant forehead, and the size of the woman's face grew until it absolutely swallowed Luna's vision. The air was clouded with black smoke and everything around her was washed in the orange glow of a fire.
And she was at the center of it all.
"She's awake now!" The person in front of Luna bellowed, sending a sour scent over her face that made her stomach jolt.
