**Maura's POV**

We stood in front of the Big House, the baby-blue paint peeling off of the old wooden boards.

"You knock," I say nervously to Percy, lightly nudging him.

He nods and makes a fist, knocking on the door three times. The yelling coming from inside stopped, and someone shuffled towards the door. Mr. D. and Chiron were always arguing, and probably arguing even more lately because of me.

The door swung open, and Mr. D. appeared.

"Ah, Percy, Annabeth, and Mary!" He said, obviously faking his enthusiasm and smile. "What can I help you with?"

"Hi, Mr. D.," Annabeth said. She motioned towards me. "And her name is Maura, not Mary."

"We're here to talk to you and Chiron," I replied, answering his question. "About my quest."

Mr. D. looked annoyed. Probably because we haven't left him alone and were still here. "Um.. yes! Of course.. come on in."

We walked inside and saw Chiron standing in front of the large table that was used mostly during meetings. He seemed to be studying a map.

"Hello, children." He said, looking up from the map. "What can I help you with?"

"We want to talk to you about Maura's quest," Percy said.

"Of course. What is the matter?" He asked.

"We know something is up." Annabeth said this boldly, and I was hoping she wouldn't mention the fact that I overheard them talking about me. "You are sending way more than two demigods with Maura on her quest... the prophecy says only two demigods are to accompany a hero on a quest."

Chiron and Mr. D. looked stumped. Did they realize they made a mistake and accidentally decide to send more than two demigods with me? Would they tell us the truth?

"And that's why we would like to know if maybe Annabeth and I could go with her instead. And drop the others. We've been on quests before. We can help her out." Percy said.

"I... I'm sorry." Chiron replied. "We've chosen the demigods to go, and that's who's going. There are... certain reasons... why we have chosen more than two demigods to accompany the hero, Annabeth."

I took a sharp breath. They weren't going to let them come with me? They had to, though. They just had to. Annabeth took a deep breath. She looked angry.

"Chiron, Mr. D., I think-" She started. I cut her off.

"We understand." I said.

"We do?" Annabeth whispered, with a hint of anger in her voice.

"Yes, we do." I whispered back. "Thank you for your time." I said out loud to Mr. D. and Chiron. We all turned around slowly and left.

-----------------------------

Once we were a good distance from the Big House, Annabeth blurted out, "We understand? I don't understand. Why would you say that?! I'm sure there's some way we could have convinced them!"

I kept walking and took a deep breath. "I have a plan... I mean, I actually don't, but I'm sure we'll come up with one."

"We'll think of something, Annabeth." Percy said. "We'll figure something out."

We walked up onto the steps of the Cabin #3, the Poseidon cabin. I plopped down onto my bed and sighed. "Come on, Annabeth, you're the brains of the operation."

"Hey, don't start relying on me for everything just because I'm a child of Athena."

"Sorry." I huffed. "Only if there was somewhere to put the other demigods if you guys could come. Hold on a second.. I jumped a little to far there. First we have to figure out how to get you guys to come along."

"We could always sneak out," Percy suggested.

"Classic." Annabeth sassed back.

"No, really, that could work." I say. "And you guys can use your invisibility cap, Annabeth. It's simple.. the night we leave you can sneak out and meet me somewhere."

"Hmm.. It could. Percy can use my invisibility cap, and I'll just sneak out after him. That makes this more simple than I thought it would be."

"Okay, well now that we have that figured out, what are we going to do with the other demigods?"

Percy and Annabeth both looked at eachother. "What?" I asked, wondering what crazy or strange solution they were thinking of.

"The Lotus Hotel." Percy said.

"And casino!" Annabeth added.

"Okay. I don't know about you, but I'm not paying for them to stay there."

"That's the thing.. When you go there, you don't want to leave because it's so fun... Let's just say it's kind of magical.." Percy answered.

"When you go there you never want to leave because of the games and food and stuff. Time seems to go so slow and you don't age when inside for a long period of time. Percy, Grover, and I stayed there for what we thought wasn't a lot of time, but then we ended up staying for five days. Luckily, we came to our senses and left." Annabeth added.

"So we'll drop them off there for a little bit until we're done? Sounds good."

By the time we were done figuring out our plans, the sun was down and the sky was dark.

Annabeth had went back to her cabin, and I got into my pajamas. I climbed in my sleeping bag.

"Night, Perc."

"Night, Maura."

I fell asleep to the sound of waves.
