{A/N: Hi everyone! Do you like the new cover? It does seem kinda bland, but I'm going to be making an even newer, spiced up one. Thanks!!}
-The Day of the Quest-
**Maura's POV**
I sat watching the flames die down as everyone left the campfire. I was sitting alone, staring at the red, orange, and yellow embers.
The other members of the quest were off getting ready. I wanted to too, but I just couldn't make myself. I only had a bit before I was leaving and I was secretly hoping they would forget about me.
I checked my watch: 8:50pm. I was leaving in 10 minutes. I finally mustered up enough courage to leave and go to my cabin. When I got there, Percy and Annabeth were waiting for me, with their backpacks slung on their shoulders. Annabeth was looking over a map.
"Hey," I said.
"Hey." They responded.
"You guys ready to go?"
"Yeah, are you?"
"Mentally? Kinda. Physically? No. I haven't packed anything." I said, stuffing an extra pair of jeans and a water bottle into my backpack. I shoved a twenty dollar bill into the extremely small side pocket and sighed. "I honestly have no idea what to bring."
I double checked to make sure Wavebreaker was in my pocket. What was I thinking? Wavebreaker was always there. I could never loose it. I think nerves were just getting to my head.
Annabeth handed Percy her invisibility cap. "When are you meeting up with the others?" Annabeth asked, trying to change the mood, but obviously failing.
"Five minutes. I should probably start walking. Where are you guys going to meet us?"
"Just hang out for a couple minutes just outside of camp, but not too close." Annabeth said.
I nodded. "I guess I should go. See you guys in a few."
I turned and walked out the cabin door.
--------------------------
From what I've learned, we aren't getting a van ride to the city. They're not going to help us get to the Underworld. They want me to die. They're just letting us go right outside of camp, which is okay because it will make it easier for Percy and Annabeth to find us.
"Good luck," Chiron says. "I wish you all the best."
The night sky is dark and speckled with stars. I pull out my map. The light of the moon is just enough to be able to read it.
"Where do we go first?" One asks- Chloe, I think. Her backpack was labeled with a red first aid cross. I've seen her helping out with the people who had gotten injured during capture the flag.
I take a closer look to my map. "The entrance to the underworld is in Los Angeles, but-"
"Give me that," One of the daughters of Athena says spitefully. "I'll lead the way. You have no idea what you're doing."
Woah. Talk about over-confidence.
The map was suddenly grabbed out of the girl's hands. Percy took off Annabeth's worn out New York Yankees baseball cap. He handed it back to me. The girl blushed,
"Oh.. Hi Percy.." Her face turned bright red and she began to smile in a very flirtatious way.
Percy gave her a weird look. I think she got the hint and stopped.
I heard footsteps and turned around.
"Ready to go?" Annabeth said, peering over my shoulder and looking at the map.
"Yeah," Percy and I both said.
Annabeth turned to the other demigods, Gracie, Kay, and Chloe. "We're going to take a... uh.. stop in Las Vegas."
"That's fine," Chloe said unknowingly.
"Let's go, then." I say, taking a deep breath.
"One question," Chloe said. "How are we going to get to Las Vegas... That's like.. a long way away." She seemed kind of.. unintelligent.. I'm saying that in a nice way.
Blackjack! I thought.
Hey, boss! Blackjack says to Percy, as he swoops down from the star-spotted sky with his 'buddies'. Need some help?
"Yes please!" I yell. Everyone else except Percy looks at me.
They all land with a thud and a clop. We climb onto their backs and we take off.
-----------------------
The Vegas lights glow below us. A cool, steady breeze blows in my dirty blonde hair. Suddenly I am slapped by the wind as we start a steep descent to the front of the Lotus Hotel (and Casino!).
We land in front of the casino. Mortals pass by us, not suspecting anything. They can't see the Pegasus because of the Mist.. I wonder what they see instead. Nothing strange.
Mortals. It's so strange saying that. Mainly because I thought I was one.
I dismount off of Marbles, and everyone else does the same with their pegasi.
"You guys should go grab us something to eat," Percy says to the two other daughters of Athena and the daughter of Apollo. "We're going to need it."
"Sure." They all say and head inside, one of them pulling out a twenty dollar bill on the way.
From what I've heard, they wouldn't be coming out any time soon. We wait a couple minutes to make sure they wouldn't come out, and then we take off into the sky, leaving Las Vegas behind and heading for Las Angeles.
{A/N: Thanks for 800+ reads!! (: Sorry I took so long to update, I got a little stuck. This chapter isn't as great, but the adventure has just begun so expect some lengthly and awesome chapters to come your way!! Xo}
