**Maura's POV**

I wake with the sun in my face. Percy is in the bed on the other side of our cabin, that overlooks the sparkling lake. Today will be my second day at Camp Half Blood.

I throw on my brand new, orange Camp Half Blood shirt. Annabeth let me borrow some of her clothes, too, since I was rushed here in such a hurry, and in the spur of the moment, that I was unable to pack and clothes or necessities except for a hairbrush and toothbrush, which I kept in my worn out bag.

"Wake up, Percy." I whispered.

"But mom... I don't want fried chicken.." He said quietly, obviously consumed in a dream.

"Percy!"

"Hammnmhmm..."

I grabbed a bucket that was sitting in the pier and went to fill it up with water. I came back to the cabin and dumped it on Percy.

"Hey!" He shot up out of his cot. "What was that for?"

"I don't want to be late for anything on my first full day, and plus I need you to show me where everything is."

I noticed he was completely dry. "Percy, why are you dry?"

"I'm the son of Poseidon, dummy. And you're his daughter. I can resist water and getting wet."

Well duh. I knew that.

With a quick flick of his wrist, leftover water in the bucket came shooting out and hot my shirt. I concentrated on not being wet, and to my amazement, I became dry. Holy crap.

"Haha, smart mouth. Now come on. I don't want to be late for capture the flag."

-1 hour later-

Annabeth fitted me with a sword, a shield, and armor.

"How do you wear this?" I asked her. "It's so heavy!"

"You'll get used to it. Now come on. The game is about to start." She replied.

Chiron came out of the mess hall and stamped his hoof to have everyone quiet down.

"Good morning, everyone. Capture the flag is this morning's activity." He repositioned the horse end of himself. "Most of you know the rules, but some of you don't. The forest is our game field. No farther than that. Magic items are allowed. No killing and no severe injuries allowed."

Annabeth passed me a spartan helmet with red feathers on top. Great. More weight. The red team was allowed to depart first.

Off into the woods we went, screaming and yelling at the top of our lungs, full of pride. I stuck near Annabeth and Percy.

After 5 or 6 minutes, I heard the blue team departing. About 6 ran towards me. Annabeth slipped on baseball cap that turned her invisible and Percy went off into the woods.

"So you're new," the biggest one said with a nasty growl. "Daughter of Poseidon.."

She lashed her sword at me, my ADHD kicking in and dodging her attempt. The other ugly demigods, which I'm guessing are her posse, backed her up, all coming at me at once. I sliced at one arm and cut it, and a neck and scratched it. Besides that, I was hopeless. I was pinned against a tree by the big one. "My father is the god of war.." She growled.

"Ares.." I whispered.

"That's right." One if the uglies drive their knife across my cheek. I felt a surge of anger, not fear, but anger. And that's when the water came shooting up. The water torpedo blasted Ares's daughter off her feet and onto her butt. The other uglies got the same treatment.

I took my sword out of the sheath. I lashed her arms and one leg, also a deep cut in her forehead. The other uglies attacked, but they got pretty badly cut up. I turned around and looked for any blue team members hiding in the bushes. I don't see any enemies, but I do see the blue team's flag. I run through the prickly bushes and get to the flag. When I touch it, it turns red.

Annabeth appears out of no where and congratulates me.

"Did you seriously just hide and watch me fight off those Ares children?" I asked her.

"Yes." She said.

"Well done, Maura." Percy said. He glanced at my cuts. He took my hand and walked me to the creek. He stuck my hand in it. There was a quick pain. I watched my injuries dissolve and disappear. Amazing.

At dinner, the red team held a toast to me for being there champion.

Life would be good here at Camp Half Blood. I just knew it.
