That next day you woke up bright and early, too early maybe. You were just so excited to go on that walk with Todd. You shot up out of bed, practically skipping around your house as you got dressed and prepared for the day. You tied your hair back in a bandana and curled your hair in loose beach waves. You made yourself look a bit nicer today because it made you feel more confidence. Confidence was sometimes even more beautiful than beauty itself. At least on you it was.

You went to the kitchen, going to grab juice and read a bit to wait for Todd. But as you poured a glass, a knock was sounded at your door. That's when you realized you were home alone. Your parents didn't even say goodbye when they left for work. That made you a bit sadder but you hoped that whoever was behind your door would make you happier. Your hopes were answered as you Todd Anderson standing with his hands in his pocket, jiggling his hands inside, drumming on his thighs. He was looking down at his feet and biting on his cheek. When you yanked the door open in excitement, his head shot up and he stared at you, a smile growing on his face. He pushed his glasses up on his head so he could be polite and make eye contact with you. You noticed two odd things. He was wearing sunglasses, looking like Paul Newman or Tony Curtis. A moviestar. He already had stunning looks but the glasses just added something to him. A beautiful something. The second weird thing was he actually looked you in the eye. Shy Todd Anderson was looking an angel in the eyes... he really liked you. His eyes sparkled as he stared at you, waiting for you to speak first. He didn't want to talk over you.

"Hi Todd!" You exclaimed, opening your screen door and stepping out. He grinned wider and put his hand out to you. You giggled, grabbing his hand and walking with him off of the porch. You two began going down the street, back to the park, swinging your hands back and forth. You did it gently at first, both of you not noticing the way you two did a cliche romantic trope. Todd noticed at first, laughing a little bit. Then you noticed. You began obnoxiously swinging your arms, almost throwing your hands so high that they went above their head. Todd began to crack up and shout at you, kindly and playfully, to stop. He claimed you were 'so embarrassing.'

"I began reading that book you gave me. Very interesting. A friend of mine enjoys reading Oscar Wilde so reading that book also made me feel closer to him as well. Thank you, and I'll return it as soon as I can." He said, practically feeling terribly sympathetic and upset that he had borrowed one of your books. You just shrugged, shaking your head.

"Don't rush. Enjoy the book. Let it reside within you and change you." You said, charmingly. He looked at you, instead of the road ahead of you both. He looked at you like he had just heard a Greek goddess speak. He found that statement terribly beautiful. Almost as beautiful as the slogan 'carpe diem' or 'gather ye rosebuds while ye may.' You felt him staring but you refused to stare back for some reason. You could feel him admiring your beauty. Feel him falling for you. Feel him graciously telling himself, 'Look at you, you lucky son of a bitch.' You held him hand a bit tighter, shifting your hands so your fingers now interlocked. You smiled as you saw the park come up the horizon. Todd just continue to sweetly stare.

"What's your friends name?" You asked, finally looking back at him. His stare broke and he blushed heavily, going back to that shy part of him. He looked at his feet and put his free hand in his pocket.

"Knox Overstreet. He goes to Welton with me. He is a hopeless romantic so he reads some of the heartbreaking Oscar Wilde books to be grounded again." Todd explained quietly. You smiled at his shyness. You felt that warmth in your chest again. Why did you have a crush on him all of a sudden? He was shy, quiet, kept to himself, a bit self conscious. But all of those flaws...  you couldn't help but love them. His shyness made him blush easily. When his cheeks would blush and would look down and bite his lip a little, making his long hair hide his sweet eyes. The shyness made him fiddle with his hands and do these repetitive quirks that always seized in putting a smile on your face and a gilmour in your eyes. Because he was so quiet, he observed everything, saw people for who they truly were. Their darkness, their envious traits. It was a gallant trait to him that you wished you could adapt. But that was something you also couldn't take away from him. He should pride himself as observer and love that about himself. But he didn't. Sometimes he seemed like he hated every last bit of himself. That made you upset. It made your hands shake and your stomach turn. There was nothing you couldn't not love about Todd. All of his flaws were outmaned and stuck behind all of his wonderful qualities. And those wonderful qualities weren't just wonderful. They were superb, marvelous, magnificent traits that everyone should be threatened by because they made him such a great man. That's why you liked him. He was humble and didn't use his great attributes for the worse. You just hoped he loved himself. You can be humble and still love yourself. Even if he didn't love himself, you loved him. A lot. So much. You were in love with Todd Anderson. The boy next door, the shy kid who barely looks up, who barely speaks. You fell for his silent kindness.
