Chapter I

The sounds of bags zipping sealed and lockers opening flooded the halls of Whitechapel High School. You were stood before your locker, rummaging through your bag of which hung inside the tight metal space upon a little hook on the right side. Your lips cracked painfully, slipping your tongue between the pink flesh you attempted to moisten your mouth as a way to bring some form of life to them.

"I knew the ties wouldn't work!" The whining voice of your friend was heard down the hall. You turned your head to notice Benny and Ethan heading your way when they noticed you by your locker. Offering a tight-lipped smile, you crossed your arms over your chest and watched them come closer towards you.

"Hey, guys. How'd your pitch go?" You asked them, casually closing your locker with a couple textbooks in your hands, clutching them against your chest.

"Not too well," Ethan pressed his lips together and looked beside him towards Benny.

"Yeah, Hannah wants to go with a retro theme. So lame," Benny rolled his eyes in a playful manner, causing you to chuckle beneath your breath.

"So that means we can't use our avatars?" Your bottom lip protruded into a subtle pout, looking between your two friends.

"Unfortunately, not," Ethan shook his head releasing a soft sigh.

"She's gonna use an old camera of Grandma's, I sold it at a yard sale last week," Benny spoke, his eyes looking to you. You felt a hot flush arise upon your cheeks at the look he gave you.

Looking towards Ethan again, you offered a small smile. "Well, there's always next year, hm? Could always pitch the idea again, I could help you. I always do well on persuasion essays," You chuckled lightly, a soft snort escaping your nose.

"Yeah.. thanks, Y/N," Ethan chuckled before turning to look at Benny. "We'll see you later in class, Y/N," Ethan spoke again, giving a smile. You nodded your head softly and waved them off before turning on your heels and walking in the other direction.

Benny's head peeled back as he walked with Ethan down the hall, continuously watching where your busted up shoes clicked against the tiled flooring.

.

Seated in your English class with Benny behind you and Ethan to the right of him. Mindlessly fiddling with your pencil, you pressed your lips together when you heard Ethan speak.

"So this morning, Hannah was really nice to me and asked if she could confide in me," Ethan mentioned, making you turn your body so you could speak to the both of them.
