Chapter XII

Wearing the Whitechapel High School's hockey jersey, you sat against the cold benches beside Ethan and Benny. Your helmet covered your entire head, its heavy weight caused your head to feel as though it were the same as a bowling ball. You leaned your chin up to gaze through the helmet at the players who were trying out for the team, getting knocked into the plexiglass that surrounded the ice rink. You flinched softly and gripped onto the edge of the bench as you watch one of Whitechapel's hockey players check an opponent into the wall before the three of you.

"Yeah, nice one, Boltz!" Benny stated through his helmet as he was seated in between you and Ethan. "Woo! Go team!"

You swallowed thickly as you watched the game proceed. "He's an animal," You emphasized and watched the game continue.

"Nah, he's just a natural," Benny smiled stupidly through his helmet, making you chuckle under your breath.

"This team plays for one reason: to win," Vice Principle Stern was stood by the coach, beside the benches that were filled with many other students. "You wanna make the cut, you've gotta sweat hockey, bleed hockey," He went on.

"And, remember, most importantly to have fun!" The coach gave you all a thumbs up, making you nervously smile.

"On your own time, no fun on the ice!" Stern spoke aggressively, "Only the best of the best will make this team." They turned their attention to the ice as you, Ethan and Benny sat close together on the benches.

"Are you guys sure we should be here?" Ethan questioned, flinching at the amount of body checks were happening on the ice.

"Yeah, we're not even the best of the worst," You looked between them.

"Guys, there are two ways to get popular fast: form a band or join a team," Benny stated, "And since Ethan's oboe lessons never really paid out, this is all we've got." You nodded gently at his logic and looked at Ethan who seemed to be offended. "Besides, E, you're awesome at hockey."

"Yeah, you really are," You added on.

"Awesome at watching hockey," Ethan replied, "The closest I ever came to playing was Super Puckzoid Four."
