screams

I was yelling the best I could Travis had left and hadn't been back I had counted several days Jacob was suppose to be gone on business for the next few days my parents wouldn't look for us for at least a few more dsys . I was starting to panic as Jacob hadn't really moved much he was asleep or at least thats what I keep telling myself .. He can't die he can't .. At least the bleeding had stopped .
I heard footsteps the next day and froze my heart pounding until I heard the Formans voice and his wife they were out walking the grounds I couldn't let them get out of earshot. I used my teeth to work the piece of dress just out of my mouth and screamed at first it came out horse but as I got louder Jacob began to stir he looked at me and then started yelling. The chains rattling on the main door fueled me to yell louder I heard more voices as the minutes ticked by. Jacob didn't look good after a few moments he has passed out again it only made me yell louder when the horse stall was yanked open and the Forman and the men ran in I begged them to check on Jacob first the Forman didn't listen and helped me while the others looked after Jacob. "He needs a doctor Travis shot him please help him I can't loose him. The Forman nodded his head and passed me to his wife who walked me out into the morning sunlight. The men carried Jacob out of the barn and up to the house as quickly as they could they sent the best rider on the fastest horse into town the doctor was there within the day and was taking care of Jacob. I was sitting in his office I could hear his screams of pain as the doctor dug the bullet out of his shoulder. It was late into the night when the doctor came into the office and nudged my shoulder I must of fallen asleep. " Jacob will be okay he will need rest but I don't see why he won't be fine in a few weeks. Now though I need to check on you, you are close to delivering you need to rest as well. The doctor examined me and listened to the babies and told me all was well that I needed to rest and take things easy to make the delivery easier when it came time.
The next day I awoke with Jacob standing over me.
"Please tell me you didn't sleep sitting at my desk all night thats not good for you sweetheart" I rolled my eyes and stood owww the pain in my back said it agreed. Jacob shook his head and reached for my hand with his arm that wasn't in a sling. Let's go eat and talk ...
I walked with him to our room and out onto the balcony where breakfast was already set up he pulled my chair out and when he struggled to push it back in I had to stiffle a giggle I reached behind me and touched his hand " I've got it go sit" he grudgingly went and sat as I scooted myself toward the table. We began to eat in silence when Jacob cleared his throught " Travis was killed" I froze at the unexpected topic he started again " he was in town he got in a bar fight and tried to dual a man they said Travis was drunk but wouldn't stand down" I put down my fruit and sat back " I cannot say I am surprised or terribly upset he was an awful man " Jacob reached out for my hand " it's okay to be sad for him he was a good man at one time and he lost his life." I nodded and took a deep breath. When I leaned back a button on my dress popped loose ending the somber moment. " laughing Jacob said I wonder how long we have before they come " I rolled my eyes at his laughter and shook my head " it'll be soon I don't think we will have to wait to much longer "

Two weeks later ......
I was walking in the garden with my mother talking to her about plans for the fall when I felt a pain run down my back I gasped and she froze. I reached out and grabbed her she smiled and helped me to the closest bench.
Kassandra darling I think it's time we need to get you to the guest room and call the formans wife and the doctor I nodded and stood as the pain passed we got up the stairs and into the room before the others arrived. My mother was untying my dress when Jacob burst in the door. My mother tried to shoo him away but he just pushed past her and came to my side and picked up where she had left off. He had untied everything and I was stepping out of the dress when another pain shot through me I leaned into him and cried out yes the babies were coming I looked up into his eyes there was fear, panic, and love. When the pain stopped I finished undressing and he helped me slip on my night gown and walked me to the bed. My mother tried again to make him leave the room but he just looked at her. When he wouldn't leave she bustled out of the room mumbling under her breath .. laughing I whispered " I think you made her mad" she came huffing and puffing back in the room the doctor on her heels " he shouldn't be here only women and doctors should be present for birthing" Jacob stood and spoke with authority in his voice " I don't care I am not leaving her side she is my wife and I will take care of her and our children even if that means breaking a few rules in the process. Now if you want me to leave you will have to drag my away from her side do you understand that. " the doctor chuckled " I wasn't about to argue with you , I've lost to many of those with you to try now" my mother huffed and busied herself with preparing the room for the babies arrival
