( in this time and place women are viewed and treated as if they are owned by husbands and husbands can do what ever they see fit )

As the weeks went on and the wedding preparation got underway I began to get sick through out the days never knowing when the sickness would come.
Two weeks before the wedding as I was getting dressed my mother came into my room and asked  if I  was feeling okay I nodded "yes mother I am feeling better today. Are we going for my last dress fitting " she nodded and spoke briskly " yes but the maids have told  me some troubling news so while we are in town we will also be going to see a doctor about you being sick all the time these last month's." Not thinking anything about it I agreed and finished dressing. The ride into town was very quite, that is very odd for my mother seeing as my wedding is just weeks away and being her only child this will be the biggest party she has ever been able to throw.

The first stop was the seamstress to try on my dress for the last time before the wedding. I put it on and noticed it was a bit snug in the bust and stomach area but didn't say anything seeing as I had been tasting all the cakes and sweets that were being selected for the wedding. My mother on the other hand had a look of anger  and something else disappointment maybe I wasn't sure.

The doctor was an old friend of fathers and had cleared most of his day to try and discover the cause of my illness,  he checked everything he could think of and then asked my mother to leave the room she started to argue but the doctor held up his hand " mam if you want me to determine what is wrong with your daughter I need to speak with her alone she may not feel she can speak freely with you in the room." With a sharp sigh she turned and left the room.
The doctor looked me square in the eyes and asked " have you been in a man's bed in the month's you have fallen ill" looking down I nodded "yes but no one can know of this please do not speak of this to my mother" he looked at me solemly " dear girl I have to you are with  child !" With that he left the room to go talk to my mother.
It didn't take long until I heard my mother shout "THIS CAN NOT BE SHE IS TO MARRY IN A MATTER OF WEEKS." She then stormed into the room "who, who was he tell me or so help me..." the doctor stepped between mother and I "stop this she is scared enough without you shouting at her right now she needs you to help her understand what is happening. See as she's been ill the last few months I would say she isn't going to have the child for a while yet." My mother just stared at the doctor and angrily spat out " kassandra to the carriage now" I did as I was told without hesitation.
When we arrived back at the house my mother practically dragged me into my fathers study and demanded I tell him what the doctor had discovered. " father I am very sorry but I need to speak to you about something that will upset you very much"  he stood from his chair and told My mother to leave. Once it was just father and I he guesterd for me to sit and waited for me to continue
" father while we were in town today mother took me to the doctor to see why I had been ill so often," my father nodded for me to keep going. " well sir it... it.... I am very sorry father but I ... I am with child" my fathers eyes went wide with surprise he stepped forward  suddenly and shouted "HOW COULD YOU,  WAS IT WITH TRAVIS" I shook my head, with out warning my fathers hand lands across the side of my face. My father had slapped me something I would never in my lifetime expected him to do.
As tears stung my face my father called to one of the servants " go fetch Travis immediately we must discuss what has to be done." He then looked at me " you young lady will go to you room and will not leave until I call you back down into this study once I've tried to convince Travis to still Marry you." With tears falling uncontrolled from my face I left the study.
