Chet and Ray loaded the man into the back of the car.

Brooke had argued that you couldn't just leave him in the road; you agreed.

Xavier sat in the front, gripping the steering wheel even though we weren't moving, probably praying that the camp counsellor who he'd hit wouldn't sue.

"Okay! All done!" Chet says, casually climbing back into the van, Ray followed quietly behind him.

Xavier put the van into gear and the whir of the engine filled the silence that had been developing.

Everyone seemed to be deep in thought.

"So," You attempt to start conversation, "What's Camp Redwood like? Any of you been before?"

Everyone just shook their heads.

"Not even to check it out?" You ask but instead of an answer, you heard the ding-ding noise that symbolised the fuel was low.

"Er, I'm just gonna pull into the petrol station." Xavier says, turning the van.

You found it hard to believe that Xavier was still driving after that, you knew that you would feel super guilty and wouldn't be able to drive for at least a month.

"Yeah, I'll buy some snacks." Montana says, smiling and breaking the trance that'd fallen over the group.

"Can I have a Diet Pepsi please?" Ray asks.

Montana nodded and looked around to see if anyone else wanted something.

"Oh," You say, realising what she was doing, "I'll have a Pepsi too."

"No one else?" Montana questions, sliding the door open, when she had no response she just said, "Okay. Cool."

She jumps out the car and jogs towards the service station.

"Can I come with?" You yell to Montana, realising that sitting in silence in the car would be dull.

She gives you a thumbs up and you sprint towards her.

"So, Y/n," Montana says once you'd caught up with her, "I actually don't know much about you, hmmmm, where you from?"

You freeze, maybe it was a good idea to make up a story about your past.

Or maybe keep it as real as you could.

"I'm from New Orleans," You say, thinking back to the academy, "I'm here to stay safe."

All that you said was true so you didn't feel guilty.

Montana didn't pry, she just scoffed.

"Huh? Not really safe here is it?" Montana laughs before changing her voice to a spooky yet jokey tone, "ThE nIgHt StAlKeR iS aFtEr YoU."

You laugh too, it wasn't a real one.

You were thinking of Mallory, hoping that she was okay and that she'd survived the apocalypse even though it hadn't even happened yet.

Your head hurt just thinking about it.

"Y/n?" Montana says, seeing your bewildered expression, "Are you okay? I was joking you know!"

Montana was genuinely a nice person, she always came across as 'bad' with her crazy hair and makeup but she was kind to the people she liked.

"Yeah, Yeah," You say, forcing a smile onto your face, "Completely fine."

"Ya know, if the night stalker thing has shaken you up, you need to remember two things." Montana continues, not believing that you are okay.

She was right, you weren't okay, but not about that.

"Number one is that he is not going to follow to camp," Montana reassures you, "Number two is that if he does follow us, we won't let him kill you. I can be pretty mean sometimes ya know."

You smile at Montana's friendly attempt.

The only problem was, you had an awful gut feeling that neither of those things would be right.
