Empty.
That is what Adeline felt. Completely empty.
Like there was a major part of her body missing yet everything was still there. How can he make her feel like this with just few meaningless words. Or are they meaningless?
She was crying and she didn't even realize it. She found out when Astrid kneeled down beside her and said "Oh Adeline, don't cry please. Everything is going to be alright. The pain is going to go away." But Adeline didn't feel pain. She felt nothing.
"Why do I feel like this after what he said?"
"Every werewolf can decide about accepting or rejecting their mate. The rejection rarely happens, but it is possible. After his words the bond is broken. That is why you are in pain. There are tails about rejected mates who go mad because of the rejection."
"But I don't feel pain. I feel empty. There is no feelings." Adeline said and started to think. She has to go. This is not making any sense. She tried to stand up but Astrid refused to let her.
"Please just stay laying down just a little bit. You passed out, you have to rest a little."
"No. I don't want to be here any more. I believe you and I am not angry with you. I just have to be alone. I feel weird. I cant put my finger on what it is but I just have to go. Please." She was standing up as she was saying that and Astrid decided to let her go. She suffered enough here.
When Adeline left the house Marcus was standing in front of the door.
"I am sorry for what he did to you. He thinks he has good reasons and I suppose he didn't tell you about them. If you ever need anything, this is my number. Call me whenever you want. Do you need a ride home?" Marcus was feeling very sad for her. He knew what is like to lose your mate. His mate died and he would do anything to bring her back. Therefore he couldn't understand how, his best friend and beloved Alpha, could reject his mate.
"No, I am here with my car. But thank for your offer. You are very kind."
"I can drive your car. You shouldn't drive after passing out. I can run back through the woods, I need a run anyways."
"Okay. Thank you!" Adeline accepted just because when Marcus said he was sorry, he looked like he genuinely felt it. He was kind and sincere.
"You don't have to thank me. You are my Luna and this is the least I can do." Adeline was a little bit confused but then remembered what Astrid told her.
"I guess your Alpha will find a new Luna. Astrid explained to me that now he is no longer my mate."
"Yea. I guess. But I still feel like you are the Luna of this pack."
"Maybe you shouldn't."
They were driving now. It was very comfortable. Adeline didn't have the urge to make small talk to avoid the awkward silence. The silence was nice. It felt like they were two friends driving somewhere. They were in front of Adelines house in no time.
" Here we go. If you need company I can stay." Marcus said with a kind face expression.
"No, no need to babysit me. I really just have to be alone for a little bit. I am not in pain or in longing. I just have to clear my mind."
And so he left. But he didn't understand. How wasn't she feeling the break of the bond. He still remembers the unbearable pain. He can still feel it when the memories resurface and that happens quite a lot.
The other day Adeline decided to go to work. Last night she made some decisions. Maybe it was good she felt empty. She wasn't going to lose sleep over this. It is what it is. She is going to talk with Atrix again. She wants to know more about herself. Kellam wasn't in that picture. Why would she now stop living because of some stupid mate thing when she didn't even feel anything towards him.
