Umnuri

The forest was dark and there was a little bit of wind. Adeline was following something. Like something was calling her deeper into the forest. She didn't recognize the path she was following nor the voice that was calling her. She didn't understand the words that were coming to her like the wind. It was a totally different language yet Adeline knew the voice was calling her. What she was hearing was Umnuri. An ancient language in witch witches and wizards chanted their spells. The voice was getting closer and closer but still she didn't understand the words. In the moment she thought she reached the person calling voice belonged to Adeline was stopped in her tracks by a scream so powerful she fell to the ground.

Adeline woke up screaming. And when she realized what she was doing she was in shock. Why was she screaming and what the f*** was this strange dream. It felt like she was really there. Adeline dreamed realistic dreams in the past, but not like this. This was something else and it had influenced her to the point she was now walking around her room trying to control her heavy breathing. Snap out of it she thought to herself. Tea. That is the solution, she thought and with that she went downstairs and poured herself a big cup of blueberry and vanilla tea.

Today is her day off. Astrid told her they are going for lunch and a walk after. It was 6 am currently and Adeline didn't know what to do wit herself. She decided to shovel snow in front the house. It was still snowing and there was a high lair of whiteness everywhere you looked. While shoveling Adeline noticed that the snow is totally untouched except for one part where you can see a print of paws. They are too big to be dog paws and they are most definitely too visible to be from last night. They looked like the animal was here just minutes before Adeline saw them. Shiver gone through Adeline body. Were there wolves in those woods? That would explain the tattoo everyone is wearing. She could swear she saw the tattoo on Marcus yesterday while he was rolling up his sleeves. Once again Adeline tried to shake out the strange thoughts she was having and very quickly she finished with cleaning her front porch.

Astrid called to tell her to be ready at 1 pm so they could grab lunch and walk a little along the river. When Adeline exited the house on a signal of a honking car she was a little bit socked. Astrid was driving her black Land Rover and her brother was sitting on the passengers seat. It was like she could see those beautiful eyes from a mile away.  When she came closer to the car he exited and opened a door for her.

"Hello, I'm Kellam. I'm sorry I ran out like that yesterday, I was in a rush." Kellam offered a hand, with no expression on his face, to Adeline while introducing himself.

"Oh no worries, I understand." Adeline put her hand in his and felt like she was starting to levitate. "I'm Adeline by the way. Nice to meet you"

Kellam didn't answer any further. He was in shock. She was standing in front of him and her voice was the most beautiful sound Kellam ever heard in his life. He wanted to touch her more but that would be very inappropriate thing to do. Astrid was still angry at his brother but she tried to hide that from Adeline. After todays morning she was even considering to advise Adeline to move once again. But that would be totally stupid and Adeline would be very angry with her. Kellam threw a temper tantrum this morning. He was frustrated and Astrid understood that but still she couldn't stand his guts right now. On top of that he just sat in her car and demanded to take him with her to lunch. So here they were. Three people driving in complete silence.

"Soo, how do you like it here" Kellam gathered all his strength to start a conversation with Adeline.

"It is really beautiful. I fell in love with this town the second I came here. It doesn't feel like home yet but I hope that will change too."

"Do you like the snow? I heard you are a city girl. A drastic change replacing those concrete giants with our beautiful woods ha?"

"Snow was probably the thing that got me the most about this place." Adeline smiled and that got Kellam totally off guard. He forgot he had to breath to stay conscious and in one moment he felt like he was going to faint.  "I would say I adjusted just fine to the woods. I was wondering just this morning if maybe there are wolves in those woods?"

Astrid was thunderstruck and almost forgot she was driving the car. "What? Wolves? What would make you ask that? Did you see any?" Astrid started to ask nervously.

"No I didn't. It's just that this morning while shovelings the snow I saw some prints of paws in the snow and there is this legend I hear about from one of my patients. I asked him after I noticed tattoos everyone has in this town"

"Oh yea. There is some legend. Everybody is so fascinated with it that they tattoo the wolf. Isn't that crazy" Astrid said in such a high pitch that Adeline thought she was messing with her but after that there was just silence in the car.

While they waited for lunch they chatted a little bit. Astrid was acting strange while Kellam was looking at Adeline like he was trying to figure out something but it wasn't working out for him. Just as they got the lunch Astrid got a phone call.

"Hello. Yes I am. Of course, I will be right there. I am 3 minutes away so it will not take me long to get there. See you."

"What was that about?" Adeline asked

"Some kid broke his led on three different locations so I have to get him to surgery and see what is going on with that leg. I have to go. Would it be okay if Kellam drove you home. I am sorry for today. I will make it up to you"

"No worries Astrid, just go, I can get a taxi home" As Adeline was ending that sentence Astrid was already outside the restaurant.

"I will drive you home. But first eat your lunch" Kellam said with a tint of satisfaction in his eyes.

Why was this man so strange. His facial expression didn't change since she saw him the first time. It was like he thought he bas better than everybody around or what? And why on earth would he tell her what to do. Days of bossing Adeline around by someone were over and a little rebel in her broke to the surface.

"I want to go home now. I was really hoping to spend this time with Astrid and since you don't know how to smile or even pretend I don't feel like I am in a good company."

"Oh is that so, miss Deamonne" Kellam said with his stone cold expression. If only she knew this is the company she is going to have for the rest of her life.

"Yea, if you won't drive me than I am going on foot" and with that Adeline stood from the table but Kellam stood right after her. He didn't looked pleased  and Adeline was even a little bit afraid in that moment. Who is he to act like that. When she wanted to turn around his hand caught hers and all of a sudden she felt even more scared. But than something happened that was so strange Adeline thought she got back in that dream she dreamed last night.

Kellam nearly jumped when he felt his flesh burning. Her skin burned him and it was not healing as quickly as it should. She seamed too shocked to comprehend what just happened and she just ran outside.

Kellam mind linked his beta, Marcus telling him what happened. Marcus knew in a moment what happened because he already saw something very similar to that. A spell.

"Kellam she is a witch" Marcuses words ringed in Kellams head.
