All eyes on me

Snowflakes. So much happiness in those little thing Adeline thought to herself. She was just leaving for work. She was in the morning shift so it was still a little bit dark outside. But when she saw snow through the window, Adeline almost flipped. Snow was something special for her, something that started up so many emotions in her. Adeline never understood it, it was what it was. She turned herself to see if she forgot something, her eyes were scanning through her little new home. The house sat just at the hem of the forest, this backyard was all she ever wanted. All rooms were pretty small but sooo cozy and most importantly, Adeline saw this house something she could someday call a home. Last look she took was of herself. A big rustical mirror was standing in the hallway. She had big brown eyes, in one way even too big in her opinion. Her extremely curly brown hair was falling just bellow her breasts and it could not be tamed. It was what it was. She couldn't change how she was looking. You just got to go with what you have, Adeline thought to herself.

With that, she left to work. It was a week since she was here and it was too good to be true. Astrid was in the same shift as her and besides the ton of work they had, they had fun. As a marvelous host Astrid was, she took Adeline too all best bars in town, showed her best shops and boutiques and hinted that she would take her sightseeing when it got war. What a lie, Adeline thought with a smirk. All Astrid cared about were exactly those thing she showed Adeline in her town.

Northon and people that lived here were very friendly. Almost everybody knew each other and they would always make a little chit-chat while passing each other on the street. If you walk in any bar they greet you as they were your long lost friends and you were reuniting at last. To Adeline this was too much in first few days. Now she knows what to expect when she goes somewhere. And on top of that big bobble of friendliness, she was a new doctor in town. They all treated her with respect and always tried to show her that this town is the best there is.

It all sounds perfect. But there was this feeling. This strange feeling in the pit of Adelines' stomach. She couldn't put a finger on what that feeling was. At first she thought it was because of weather change or something of that nature. But it wasn't going away. It was like she was unsteady at all times. Like something was urging her to go somewhere or to do something. That was driving her crazy. When she had a lot of work and when she was hanging out with Astrid she managed to put that feeling away. But still, she was hoping it was going away soon.

"Good morning doc. Deamonne, how is your day going so far. Do you like the snow? We get plenty of it in the winter." An elderly doctor greeted Adeline on her way from the parking lot to the entrance of the hospital. She muttered a kind response to him while shivering because of how poorly she dressed herself.

"Hey you! Such a lovely day to go out in the evening isn't it?"

"Astrid please, it is 6 am and you are already thinking about booze. If I only knew what is going in that head of yours sometimes." Adeline answered while still shivering with her whole body.

"Come on, tonight the bar is having a hot chocolate with baylis on the menu. It is perfect for relaxing after a long hard week. Besides, tomorrow is your day off. You blew me out three times this week already. My friends would like to meet you and it will be really fun. You'll see, come ooooon!"

"Okay, okay. But just a drink or two. We are not doing Astrids blackout episode this time. We are not in college anymore. Understood?"

"Yes mom, I will behave. And for your information they were not blackout episodes! They were precious moments filled with just the right amount of alcohol so that they can become forgettable yet so unforgettable."

"What ever keeps you asleep at nigh Astrid." Adeline knew she had to change the subject or Astrid will not shut up until the end of their shift.

Todays shift was gone by pretty smooth. But a strange thing happened to Adeline. Or it was a thing she saw that was strange. A middle-aged man came in her office for a monthly check up and he had the same tattoo she kept seeing around the town. His whole back was covered with the same howling wolf everybody had.

"A nice tattoo you got there sir. It is a real peace of art. I don't mean to be rude or invasive but I noticed a few other people in this town had the same tattoo. Is it some kind of a legend of Northon?" Adeline asked.

"Oh thank you" He said with a tint of uneasiness in his voice "yea, it is a legend." and that was all she found out about that. She made a mental note to ask Astrid about the tattoo.

Astrid finished an hour earlier so she headed to the Fire and Ice Caffe before Adeline. When Adeline got there the place was crowded. She tried to find Astrid but she had to push past groups of people. At last she saw her with her friends, she was sitting in the middle, on her left there were three men an on the right were two girls. In the moment Adeline came close to them that strange stomach feeling came back and it kicked harder than before. In one second all eyes were on her. They looked so socked. Adeline didn't know what happened, maybe she did something or she gave out a really bad vibe to this group of friends.

The thing she didn't know was that Kellam, the most powerful alpha in the North, just found something that he never thought he would find. He knew he found it as soon as Adeline entered the bar.

He found his mate.
