Cookies and Cream

Emily looked excited and worried when she finally head out of the school with sir Apol.
This is the day that she gets to join the poster-making contest for the press con which kept her anxious for the whole past week.
It's a special day and I hoped to be there. But unlike her, I'm not excused from our Filipino class since I'm not participating in that press con event. I know how nervous she can get when alone in a middle of an audience. So to ease out the pressure she's feeling, I prepared a little present.
My mind was preoccupied with the schemes I'm about to make. As if scribbling at the edge of my wrinkled notebook pretending to listen about klaster or kambal katinig would make a difference.
Malcom was the first one to notice, with one look he knew that I'm about to ditch class this afternoon.
I gave him an apologetic smile as he rolled his eyes and became an accomplice of mine.
At lunchtime he said. "I hope this won't flop or else you owe me money." Then distracted the guards at the back of the school's gate enough for me to escape. Naging kaibigan pa nga ni Malcom ang nga ito.
When I got out of the school, I hurriedly maneuvered my bicycle on the way to Emily's home.
Catching my breath, I knocked on their front door and peeked through their windows. There I saw Pa'tit who got startled from sleeping in their sala's sofa. He looks so worn out considering he works during the night.
But I know he'd also want to witness Emily's improvements so I convinced him that we all should be there for her even if we have to wait outside the venue because Emily needs all the support she can get.
Pa'tit didn't waste time and prepped both of the kids, Erika and Elisse. We were a mess when we finally rode a taxi, Erika was sleeping on my lap while Pa'tit was feeding Elisse's baby bottle. There was a lot going on but we managed.
I took out the flyer I just ripped out from the school bulletin board from earlier and handed it to the driver. It was the only way for me to track the exact address and venue of the press con.
"Austin, hindi ba may pasok kayo ngayon?" Tanong ni Pa'tit sa akin.
