=============|President Perfect|=============

I walk through the halls, my straight hair falling beside my ears. I tidily gather my schoolwork in my arms (all A's at least, sorted in alphabetical order), and head down the hall. A girl tries to flirt with me, standing in front of me and twirling her hair around her finger. I completely ignore her, keeping my eyes straight ahead.

I check my watch, it turns to 3:30 sharp as soon as I walk in the student council meeting room. One of my best friends, Atsushi, turns to me and beams. "Heyo, president!"

I nod at him before sitting down at my spot at the table. The principal taps the table as several more students rush into the room, sitting down.

Hakaku Sensei, the teacher in charge of student council, clears his throat. "It has come to my attention that the teachers and students have run into problems with the dismissal system. They say it is too hectic and unruly."

He turns to me. "Shirabu-kun, as the president of student council, what do you think?"

I walk home after school, opening the door and yelling, "Mother, I'm home!"

My mother rushes down the stairs. "Kenjiro! How was school today?"

"Mm, pretty good." I hum.

I look at the smiling woman in front of me.

She isn't my real mother.

I was adopted when I was two years old. My parents spoiled me a great deal, giving me everything I could ever want and more. However they didn't devote much time to me.

I always wonder what I did to get where I've gotten. Everyone sees me as the perfect boy, with straight As and a straight path, but what did I do to achieve this?

Something starts playing on the radio.

Hello, everyone. Happy pride month! This month is devoted to all the gays out there, so put up your rainbow flags and say a great, 'happy pr-

Mother shut off the radio. "Disgusting. Terrible. Those [f-slur]s are utterly an embarrassment to humanity."

She turned back to me and smiled. "You're not like them, are you? You like girls, don't you?"

I nodded. "Yes, mum. I do."

She pat my head. "Good. I wouldn't want a gay son. How horrifying."

My mother started to walk away. "Fix yourself a snack if you want one, I'll be in the office if you need me!"

I nodded. "Very well, Mother."

I watch her figure walk away down the hall.

The bell rings for lunch time as I pack my things and place them neatly in my locker. I grab my lunch money and pack it neatly in my pocket. I start to close my locker when I hear a voice.
