'And if you fell to your death today,
I hope that Heaven is your resting place'
Harry POV
“As long as you don’t get me any more roses, we’ve already topped 2 of them.”
Fighting the urge to roll my eyes at my wife, I finished getting Sophia ready for school. This holiday was the same day every year, and I always did my best to impress Trinity.
Let’s just say…an impression hasn’t happened yet.
In her defense, I did accidentally poison her with roses twice (she’s allergic), dislocated her shoulder, and cut off a fraction of her hair in the past Valentine’s Days. But, trust me when I say that they weren’t my fault.
“Baby, why do we even have to celebrate it?” Trinity asked after calling up to Julian, “You know I couldn’t care less about these mushy holidays. Wouldn’t it make it easier on the both of us if we just decided to ignore it?”
Any other guy in the world would probably hate me for my next answer.
“Of course not! Trinity, I promise you…this year, we will have a good one. No hospital runs, no trips to the hair stylist, not even an epi pen in sight. If I fail, then I promise that we never have to celebrate it again. Just give me one more chance? Please, babe?”
Instead of smiling or awing at the love adorned expression on my face, she laughed. My wife laughed.
“I’m sorry”, she said after finally calming down, “I’m sorry, Harry. It’s just so adorable watching you be the girl in this relationship.”
“Piss off.”
“Oh, stop it. You know that I love you. So if you want to try one last time and impress me with Valentine’s Day. Go for it, baby. It’s hilarious to see you try.”
Not quite the warm sentiment that I was going for, but with my wife…that’s as good as it’s going to get. So, I stuck my tongue out at her, flicked Sophia on the nose, and stood back up.
“Not a shred of you has any confidence that this is going to work, but I don’t care. You’ll see, and I’ll make you eat your words at not believing in me.”
“Whatever”, she kissed me and shooed Sophia away, “Just take your kids to school.”
“Jules, come on. Sophia, take your finger out of your nose and get in the car.”
Julian put his headphones into his ears (I want to burn those things) and grabbed Sophia’s hands to pull her outside. They are supposed to be at school in 10 minutes and I was supposed to be at work 15 minutes ago. Obviously, I’m not the best when it comes to time.
“Harry? What are you doing? Get your dick out of your ear and go to work.”
Thankfully, my wife’s kind words were enough to snap me back into reality. So, after kissing her (longer than she cared for to her misfortune), I grabbed my briefcase and followed my kids outside. I could tell that Julian was texting his girlfriend, but Sophia was basically jumping up and down in her seat when I got in the car.
“Daddy, we’re late!”
“Yes, sweetheart”, I laughed, “Yes, we are. Blame Mum. She wouldn’t stop talking to me.”
“Well, Daddy that’s not nice.”
“Soph, he’s kidding”, Julian interrupted, “He loves Mum.”
“I do, but I’m not kidding. Although it is nice to see that you’ve taken your music out long enough to pay attention to reality.”
“Very funny, Dad. I do pay attention to reality.”
