"Just know I'm here for you, all clear for you from night to sun.
God, I've been near to you, the feel of you gives me a rush."
Zayn POV
“Why do you always knock? Just come in.”
After closing the too-big door, I followed the voice into the kitchen. Not caring if he objected, I grabbed one of the many sandwiches on the counter and sat down.
“It’s polite to knock. Normal people understand that.”
Josh rolled his eyes and wiped some of the excess flour off of his face. He looked the very image of a 50’s housewife.
“Whatever”, he scowled, “What brings you here?”
“Nothing really. Avery’s staying with Kai tonight, so I needed something to do.”
“I’m a last resort. Oh, how flattering.”
“Piss off. What do you have planned for today?”
“Probably nothing. Chloe is with her parents, so I’m basically free.”
He smiled at the mention of his girlfriend, and I couldn’t help but smile with him. It was nice to see him somewhat happy now.
“How’s that going?”
“What? Me and Chloe? We’re okay. Taking everything step by step.”
“And how are you?”
“Fine. In a good mood be-.”
“You know that’s not what I’m talking about.”
His shoulders slumped, and he turned his face away and pretended to wash something in the sink. I know he hated this question with a passion, but it was something that he had to deal with. It was a coping mechanism, or at least that’s Avery told me.
“I’m…better, Zayn. I won’t lie and say that I’m completely fine. But, I’m coping. Chloe is a good distraction. If Louis can get through his life day by day, I think I should be able to also.”
He had a point. Even though they were both completely in love with Reagan (I know the feeling), Louis had to live without his wife and the memory of her through the twins. So, Josh was right. If Louis could keep his head up, he can do the same.
“That’s great to hear”, I quickly changed the somber mood, “Since we’re both without our girls tonight, I have an idea. There’s this club that I passed by on the way over here, and it looks like fun.”
“A club?” Josh raised his eyebrows, “Sure, why not? What’s the name of it?”
“Tops & Shots.”
Josh dropped what was in his hand and glared at me, and I did all I could to hold back my laughter. I knew he would figure it out.
“Zayn, that sounds like a Gentleman’s Club type of name. Is this a strip club?”
“Precisely. Do you want to come?”
“No. And, I’m sure Avery doesn’t want you to go either.”
“Actually, I’ve already mentioned it to my wife and she couldn’t care less as long as I don’t touch anything.”
Her exact words were “Feel free to look, but if I smell any scent of a female on you, I will castrate you myself.” How sweet.
“Well, Chloe wouldn’t want me to go.”
“Sure about that?” I asked, “Or is that just a cop-out?”
