"It's the hardest rule to follow, I really wish that I could call you.
You could find another me tomorrow, and that's the hardest pill to swallow."
Liam POV
"What did you do to him?!"
I couldn't see Reagan, but it wasn't hard to guess that it was her who had just walked in. Frankly, I was pissed. There were so many other ways to die in this building right now. There were things that were still on fire, parts of the ceiling falling down, you could even fall down the stairs and snap your neck.
But, no.
She chose to die by coming here and getting shot by someone she didn't even know.
"The same thing I plan on doing to you if you don't listen to me," Kane said, "Come in."
I heard feet move and a door shut behind Reagan. From the way she was breathing, I could tell that she was trembling. Thankfully, I heard Kane whisper to one of his henchmen to get me to stand up. I was sure that he wasn't doing it for my benefit, so he must be planning something.
When I could see everything, I surveyed the room and I didn't like what I saw. Ember was still not moving, and I was worrying about her safety by the minute. Reagan had her hands in the air, staring down at Harry who I could only pray was alive.
"Who are you?" Reagan finally asked. "What do you want with me?"
"Honey, I don't want anything with you." Kane shook his head and waved his gun in the air as if to dismiss her question. "Well, maybe a couple of minutes in a dark room, but that's it. You're just collateral damage, babe. Ember is who I want."
"Then what happened to Harry?"
"He got in the way."
The chilling tone that Kane answered with sent shivers down my spine. He didn't care who he hurt as long as he got Ember. And, I wasn't giving her up without a fight.
"Well, well. I guess I know not to cross you." Reagan's sarcastic tone caused Kane to raise his eyebrows. But, he wasn't pissed or even surprised.
He was amused.
"I heard that you had spark. But, I wasn't sure. Maybe I will keep you around."
I knew what he wanted to keep her around for, and I was glad that Louis wasn't here. His temper wouldn't work well with the tension that was currently present in the room.
"Kane, why do you need Ember? What does she have that you can't find in someone else?" I was trying my best not to show my fear. One guy still had a gun pointed to my back, and my hands were still tied up. I was pretty much helpless, but I knew that he wasn't leaving here without a fight.
"Awww," he taunted. "Isn't that cute? You're taking up for your little girlfriend, aren't you?"
"I'm her professor."
"Save it. Anyone who sees you together can tell that you're screwing her. Taking advantage of your position, aren't you? I wonder what your boss would think if he knew what Ember was doing for extra credit. Little too much time on her knees if you ask me."
"What do you want, Kane?" I needed to get the focus off of me. He was right in what he was saying. I was taking advantage of being her teacher by engaging in a relationship with her. I knew that, and I didn't stop.
What did that say about me?
"Don't try and change the subject, Liam. Tell us about Ember. I've only seen her strip a couple of times, but she never actually gets naked."
