He picked up his glass of water and took a sip.
"Why are you staring at me like a moron?" She demanded.
"Everly."
"I'm not staring at you, you just have a really big zit on your forehead and it's really gross."
Her hand went up to her forehead.
"There's nothing there, stop lying."
Mason took a bite of food and narrowed his eyes.
"How's the food, Mason?" Amanda asked.
"It's great as always, Mrs. Luck."
"Call me Amanda."
"Why are you invited here today?" Everly asked.
Ansel eyed his daughter.
When did she ever speak so much?
"Your brother invited me, what can I say?"
Elijah coughed and stifled a laugh.
"I've invited my friends over after dinner too," Everly announced.
Ethan started clapping his hands.
"Look, Ethan already loves my friends. He's never that excited when he sees your face."
Mason rolled his eyes.
"You've invited your friends? That's rare. Who are those lucky people?" Ansel asked.
"You'll see, Dad."
After dinner, Elijah forced Mason to stay in the living room and not follow Everly to her room.
"Let's go up to your room, we could play one of your video games," Mason suggested.
"Nope. Let's watch T.V"
"Why are you doing this?" Mason asked.
"I don't want you to die, if you even step in Everly's room she'll kill you, or else my dad would kill you."
"I just want to be her friend."
"Sure you do."
"I really do!"
"Get yourself a girl then," Elijah suggested.
"What?"
"Get yourself a girlfriend. Everly takes after Dad. And they both have too many jealous bones in their bodies."
"Should I make her jealous?" Mason asked.
"Of course."
Mason raised his eyebrows. A few minutes later, they heard the doorbell ring and Elijah got up.
"My friends are here," Everly climbed down the stairs and said in a sing-song voice.
Elijah opened the door and there they were.
Her friends.
"Hey, Is Everly home?" Destiny asked. Angie stood glaring at him beside her.
"Uh. Yeah." He replied but didn't step aside.
"Step aside, Will ya'?" Angie raised her voice.
"Gee." Destiny glared at her.
"Oh, yeah. sure." He stepped aside and Destiny walked past him.
He inhaled her sweet scent.
Vanilla and...
Lavender.
"Stop sniffing my girl, you creep." Angie glared at him and followed Destiny.
He raised his eyebrows.
"Hello, Angie. How are you?" He heard Mason in the background.
"Do I know you?" Angie demanded.
"I'm Mason, Elijah's-,"
"Stupid best friend. I know."
"I'm really far from being stupid actually."
"I know what you are. Move."
Mason frowned.
"You're rude."
"At least, I'm not an asshole."She walked past him.
"Woah."
"Yeah. Woah." Elijah grinned.
"Find someone else." He advised.
"Yeah. Whatever."
Elijah walked towards the staircase and looked down at his feet.
Shall he go upstairs?
Offer snacks?
This is what Moms do. Ugh.
"He was literally trying to flirt with me." Angie rolled her eyes.
"He's trying to make me jealous." Everly grinned.
Destiny was looking down at her hands. Her eyes were wet.
"Are you going to cry?" Everly demanded.
"Nope." She replied in a small voice.
"Don't cry, he's probably thinking of ways to come in my room."
Just as she said that the door opened and his handsome face came in view.
"Uh. Evie. Do you have a pen?" He asked.
He glanced at her then averted his eyes.
Everly got up and handed him a pen.
"Don't forget to knock the next time you dare to set your smelly foot in my room."
"I didn't even set foot in there." Elijah protested. His face going red.
Everly shut the door and faced them.
"See? He's trying so hard to act cool in front of you. But, he's regretting his decision already."
Destiny shrugged.
His glance had been enough to make her insides churn up.
Her heart was beating so freaking fast. She stood up.
"Can you tell me where the bathroom is?" She asked.
"Yeah, it's the third room from the left."
"Thanks."
She left the room and turned left.
She opened the bathroom door and closed it behind her.
"I told you to hold it till I'm done!" Just as she was about to turn a voice boomed inside the bathroom. And she froze.
"Destiny?"
