"Hello to you too, Elijah."
Elijah looked down at his shoes and she knew that he was trying to smile.
He looked up and their eyes met.
"Hi." He said, taking a step closer to her.
"How are you?" She asked.
"Don't ask me that, Destiny Wilson." She shrugged. But something inside her broke, it was probably a tiny part of her heart.
"You're late today."
"So are you."
"I came to drop off Everly." She nodded, she rarely asked him anything now. She hadn't talked to him properly, since... well since the breakup.
"Okay. Bye." She turned and resumed walking towards the school building. She didn't want to look at him or talk to him. It was hard.
He stood there watching her leave. He took a deep breath and started walking towards his car.
His life had been shitty since last year and he knew that.
He got into his car and started the engine. His eyes were on the road but his memories kept interrupting his thoughts about his shitty life so he let them have their way.
He woke up beside her and smiled. She looked breathtaking. He gently caressed her cheek, he didn't want to wake her up, he just wanted to stare at her. She was the most beautiful girl he'd ever laid eyes on.
He wanted to tell her what budged her. It had been a couple of months since his cousin kissed her and all was okay. Han had apologized, though Destiny was still not talking to him, Elijah had forgiven him because they had talked about it and he just wanted to forgive Han. He didn't even know why.
He was sick of everything.
But some things budged him. It was as if he was there, but he wasn't at the same time.
He loved her, he knew he did. But he just couldn't see a future for them. She had asked him if he thought about the future.
The answer was no. He didn't.
His thoughts were interrupted as he felt her hand on his cheek, she opened her eyes and looked at him.
"Morning." She whispered. He leaned in and kissed her.
"Morning."
"Did you sleep well?" She asked.
He smiled.
"It was the best sleep I ever had."
She raised her eyebrows.
"You literally had no space to sleep, I'm sorry." She mumbled.
He stroked her cheek gently with his thumb.
"It's fine, I slept just fine. I love you." He kissed the top of her head.
"I love you too."
"I should probably leave now unless I want to get caught by your family." He got out of bed and started searching for his clothes on the floor.
Destiny got out of bed too.
He got dressed, kissed her, and jumped out of her bedroom window.
He was being a ninja nowadays.
Since...
Well, since they did the deed for the first time.
The first time for both of them.
Life was being lovely. But he was being a nuisance for himself.
For his own life.
He knew he was going to do something he would regret years later.
And he was right.
Because just a week later, he found her standing in front of him.
Her face was red, her eyes were puffy from all the crying and she was shaking.
"Stop it. You can-can't do this, Elijah."
He looked down at his shoes. His mind went completely blank.
"Destiny. I don't see a future for us. I don't think I can do this anymore, relationships are not for me, I guess." He shrugged. He was being an asshole.
She took a step towards him.
"No. Whatever it is we'll... we will..." She looked around helplessly as if lost for words.
He stood up and took her hands in his.
"I'm sorry. You're better off without me. I want you to have a great life, find someone who loves you-,"
"So you don't love me?" She asked. He shook his head at this.
"I love you. But I'm not ready for all this. We're teenagers, nobody finds their life partners at this point."
"Don't do this." She whispered. She looked drained. He felt sorry for her.
He left her hands and she cupped his face.
"Didn't we have a connection? Anything?" She asked.
"I'm not ready for this, Destiny." He whispered.
"We'll work through it, I promise." New tears started forming in her eyes.
"I'm not ready, Destiny." He whispered again, looking into her eyes.
"When will you be ready?" She asked as tears started to fall from her eyes.
"I don't know." He looked away, as a tear ran down his cheek.
She stepped away from him.
"How can you do this to me?" She asked.
"I love you." He told her.
"No. No, you don't." She shook her head.
"I love you, Destiny. Believe me, I do, I'm just not ready." He took a step towards her and placed his hand over her arm.
"Stop it. It's over. I don't wanna see you ever again, Elijah. You've done that. Congratulations, you've gotten rid of me." She tried to take a step away from him but he leaned in and kissed her.
She placed her hands over his chest and tried to push him away, but she couldn't, tears kept falling from their eyes as they kissed.
And that was it.
Their last kiss.
