Things had been different for a while now; I hadn't brought it up to anyone, yet I wanted too but I was scared it was as if my whole house had changed. This house didn't seem to be mine anymore. Mother and Father had slowly started to keep to themselves. It had all started when he came into our lives.

It was a cloudy and rainy day I had been walking home from school with my friends we had been friends for years. We had been talking about this boy that Megan had a crush on. She never spoke to him as whenever she tried to, she would make a fool out of herself as she would end up just staring at him all weird and we all had to quickly pull her away so nothing worse would happen for her. Therefore, as we were all walking, we had to listen to her go on and on about how she was so close to speaking to him at break, but the bell had rung so he walked off before she could open her mouth. "Stupid bell getting in the way" she said looking annoyed with her pouty lips all on display.  we all just looked at her and laughed, "sure the bell got in the way Megan but maybe you should leave him alone and make him come up to you so then you have no choice but to have a conversation with the guy." my other friend Janice had told her putting a comforting hand on her shoulder and smiling a tight smile. Then we had all went our separate ways.

Walking into my house I could smell the food on the stove my mother was cooking I could also hear my dad talking but never heard a response from my mother, so I had to assumed he was on the phone. "good day Hunny?" my mother said walking over to me and kissing my cheek before making her way back over to where the food was cooking, she had begun to cut up more potatoes for the stew we had seemed to be having for dinner today.  I had begun to tell her all about my day and the situation with Megan and that boy. I had not been one to gossip but I couldn't help not telling my mother. She was always inside the house from what I recall I don't think Ive ever seen her leave not even to go food shopping. She had always got it delivered to the house, I felt like I needed to give her something to think about other than the cleaning or doing whatever else she did when she had nothing else, she needed to do for the house, she never seemed to mind as she would always laugh and then include her opinion  on the matter of what had happened that day and I didn't mind it either I felt as though these daily talks after school had made us closer every time I walked in from school with new news. But before I could finish my Father had quickly walked into the kitchen and pull my mother to the side and starting to whisper I couldn't make out anything they was saying, and I didn't think anything of it and grabbed my bag and walk upstairs to go to my room. What a big mistake that had been.

I had fallen asleep after dinner. I woke up at 4am I heard someone downstairs it was most likely my Father as he would always stay up late to complete more work, But I heard a voice, and it wasn't one I was familiar with. Getting out of my bed I started to slowly but surely make my way to the top of the stairs to hear the conversation between this stranger and whoever they seemed to be talking too. "this has been going on for years. I don't get why you won't help us." the voice seemed be coming from a middle-aged man who had been standing near the door of the living room. He was small and had a bald spot at the back of his head and seemed to be very dressed up considering what time it was. That's when I saw it my mother had walked into my eyes view, she was also dressed up in this dress I had never seen her wear or even buy before. "listen mike, this isn't my problem anymore I left this life behind when I had my daughter, I get things are getting difficult again, but I refuse to bring her into this not when she is living a normal life something I had been so desperate to have at her age." my mother's eyes seemed to glare at the man who shook his head at her and signed "I understand but she should know the truth mel. Lying to her about this won't get you anywhere. You and I both know that" he turned and left out the door, but he looked at the stairs and I took an intake of air scared he had seen me and at this rate I didn't want anyone to see me especially after finding out that my mother seemed to be lying to me about something. I wanted to know what, but I didn't want to know at the same time. This whole secret conversation made me scared of what the truth was and whether my father knew about this secret my mother had been keeping all these years.
