Chapter 3: Hidden Feelings Part 1.

A few weeks later...

Barry and Vanessa became fast friends with both being the new students at McKinley High. Barry has also become good friends with Kara. And has started to really like her, even though she has a boyfriend. Kara and Jake are still in love and Kara still hasn't found out Jake cheating on her with Bree.

Barry met Vanessa in the cafeteria. "Hey Vanessa" he greeted. "Hey Barry!" she exclaimed with a smile. "Sorry I couldn't hang out with you yesterday. Kara took me on a little tour of Midvale. All the best spots" he said. "It's alright. I had a test before lunch, so I would've been studying last night" Vanessa said. Barry was tense. "You okay? Nervous about tryouts?" she asked. "Yeah. Wonder if I'll make it" he said, nervously. "You'll do great" Vanessa assured him. "I'll be there cheering you on. After tryouts, do you want to hang out?" she asked. "I'd like that" he answered. Unbeknownst to them, Kara was staring at them in the background, with a strange feeling but didn't know what.

School ended and Kara went to visit her sister Alex who was at medical school. "Hey Kara. How was school today?" Alex asked. "It was okay, I guess" Kara replied. There was sadness in Kara's eyes. "Okay, what's up? You're not being your usual peppy self. Did something happen with Jake?" Alex curiously questioned. "No. I mean he has been a little distant lately but that's not it. It's actually Barry" Kara replied. "Barry? He's the new kid at your school, ain't he?" Alex asked. "Yeah. We've become pretty close the last couple of weeks. But he's also been spending a lot of time with this new girl, Vanessa" Kara answered.

"So. He probably just wants some friends. Besides, Vanessa's new too. So they have that in common at least" Alex said. "Yeah. You're probably right" Kara said. "Why does it bothering you that Barry's spending time with another girl?" Alex asked. "It doesn't bother me. Why would you ask that. You coming home or not?" Kara asked, all tensed up when Alex mentioned Barry and Vanessa. Alex had a suspicious look on her face. She and Kara went home.

Back at school, Barry was trying out for the track team. And Vanessa was in the stands, cheering him on. "On your mark, get set, go!" the teacher shouted. The students who were trying out sprinted off. Barry was doing okay, but he knew that wouldn't be good enough. Then a strange feeling came upon Barry. He started to run even faster and faster. Faster than the others. Before he knew it, he finished the track with the others only completing halfway. "Woah. What just happened?" Barry asked himself.

After tryouts, Barry and Vanessa went for ice cream. "Thanks fir cheering me on today" Barey said. "Don't mention it. You did good today. And you made the track team!" Vanessa exclaimed. "I know. Still can't believe it. I mean, I never thought I would be fast enough but I never knew I could go that fast. It felt... strange. That I go even faster, that I could go lightning fast. I guess running is gonna be a big part of my life. At least for high school" Barry said.

"Is this your ice cream?" Vanessa asked. "Yeah why?" Barry questioned. Vanessa then shoved his ice cream into his face. "That's why!" she jokingly exclaimed. "Very funny. Now you've made a mess of my face" he complained. "Don't worry, I've got it" she said as she wiped the ice cream off Barry's face. "There. Good as new" she said. Then Vanessa kissed him. "What was that?" he questioned. "I'm sorry, Barry. I don't know what came over me. It's just I really like you" she confessed.

"You're a great girl, Vanessa but I like someone else" he said. "It's Kara, right? I've seen the way you look at her" Vanessa suggested. "Yeah, it's Kara. But it doesn't matter. She has a boyfriend" he complained. "That's unfortunate. She doesn't know what she's missing out on" Vanessa said.

That night, Barry went home. "Dad! I'm home!" Barry shouted. "Hey son. How was school?" Henry asked. "Good. I tried out for the track team and I made it" Barry replied. "Really? Congrats" Henry said. "Yeah. While I was running, I was behind but I suddenly had a sudden urge of energy and I finished it in a flash" Barry said. "Really? Were you okay after that?" Henry asked. "Yeah. It was strange. Probably just a one time thing" Barry said. "Yeah. Why don't you get changed and I'll make us some burgers" Henry suggested. Barry did that. Then Henry picked up a picture of his wife Nora, and said "It's that time now, sweetheart. Our boys power is coming. I'll tell him soon".

The next day, Jake met with Kara in school. "Hey Kara, I wanted to apologise about being so distant lately. Here" Jake said. Jake gave her something he did. "You didn't have to get me anything" Kara said. "I know but, it's least I could do" he said. Jake gave Kara a picture of him in a pumpkin costume and the words 'I love you, Jake'. "I love it, Jake" she said. They kissed. Kara met with Vanessa at her locker before class.

"So what's going on between you and Barry?" Kara asked. "Nothing. We're just friends" Vanessa replied. "Doesn't look like nothing to me. Looks like something more than friendship" Kara suggested. "Well, that's not. If you must know, I have feelings for Barry. But he doesn't feel the same for me so we're just friends. Don't worry, I won'tstop you from pursuing Barry" Vanessa said. "Why would I pursue Barry. I'm in love with Jake" Kara said.

Meanwhile Bree found out some important news and needed to tell Jake. "Okay I'm here. What did you want to talk about?" he asked. "I'm pregnant" she said. "What?" Jake questioned. "I'm pregnant and it's yours" Bree said.

What will this mean for Jake and Kara's relationship?
