"You can't do this!" I raised my voice.
"We have made the decision. And we are not changing our minds." My father said, trying to stay calm.
He took my mom by the arm and then walked out of the room without another word. I could tell my mom wasn't liking this, either. Her eyes, just like mine, looked sad and desperate. Thomas' parents walked out too, leaving Thomas and me alone.
I had the sensation the room was getting smaller, and the walls were going to crush us. My breathing got heavier and I fell on the sofa behind me.
Thomas stood in front of me and maintained the silence. We were both just as shocked and in dislike of the situation. Our parents are forcing us to get married even though we're not in love.
In case you weren't aware, my name is Y/n L/n and I'm the Princess of Davia. My parents are the King and Queen. Since I'm an only child, I'll be inheriting the throne. I'll be the future Queen of this Kingdom. Which is why they're forcing me to marry Thomas.
He's a nice, funny guy, but I'm not in love with him. Thomas and I have been best friends since forever. Our mothers even gave birth to us in the same week. Because his Kingdom and mine are next to each other, we spent most of our childhood together. Even as adults, we're still like siblings.
His parents are the King and Queen of Ecrington. And yes, he's supposed to inherit the throne and become King too. Which is why our parents arranged this marriage. They want to stand down and give us the throne. Their plan is to unite our kingdoms and their citizens. But that doesn't give them the right to choose who we marry. They think that because we're best friends, we're delighted to do this but they're so wrong. It's gross. Thomas is like a brother to me, not a romantic interest.
I groaned, and Thomas sat down next to me. He turned his head and looked at me. I could tell he wanted to say something, but couldn't figure out what. I was going through the same thing. Gone was the ability to form a sentence.
To make matters worse, Thomas had been seeing someone. He told me about a beautiful, funny, and humble woman who swept him off his feet. I was happy for him because of how he talked about her. It was so obvious he was in love. But our parents crushed any chance he had of being with the woman he loves.
"We have to stop them from doing this." I whispered.
Thomas sighed and shook his head. "What? What can we do? They're stubborn. Nothing we say or do, will change their minds."
I stared at the ceiling in silence. I didn't know how, but we had to stop our parents. There's no way I was marrying Thomas.
Thomas POV
We sat there for what seemed like hours. All I could think of was Amber. What was I going to tell her? Our parents clarified we couldn't tell anyone about the arrangement. Everyone was supposed to think that we're doing this voluntarily.
I don't know when or how I'm going to tell her. The last thing I want is to hurt the woman I really love.
"We should get ready for the ball." I turned to look at Y/n.
Y/n's parents organized a ball just for the fun of it. Just like my own parents, they love meeting citizens of different kingdoms and countries. Our parents are very generous and humble people. However, that doesn't mean we're going to forgive them for this arrangement soon.
Y/n sighed, and her face remained neutral. You couldn't tell what she was thinking based on the look on her face. But I knew what was going on inside her mind because it was the same thing that was going on in mine. Desperation. Frustration. Anger. Thoughts of how to avoid this marriage flooded me. But I guess it's better to do it with my best friend than some stranger I don't even know.
