I was waiting for a anything that would come out of Dib's mouth, but so far...nothing.
Zim sat there in my pullover, sniffing on it. He didn't complain of made any signs of discomfort. The car was silent with the three kids. I stopped at the house of the Membrane family, as I remained in my seat. Dib hesitated to get out, "Aren't you coming Y/N?"
"In case you forgotten, Zim lives elsewhere"
"He can walk the rest!"
One look and he realized that I didn't with him any time soon.
"Are you kidding me?"
"No Dib, I will get Zim home and then I come back"
Annoyed, the boy closed the car shut, with him inside, "I am not leaving you with that...thing."
"In that case...keep quiet and sit still "referring to his seat belt. His hands are always fiddling with it, prepared to get up quickly. I see no reason for that, as Zim behaved perfectly. With an umbrella, we both walked towards his house. Dib slammed his entire face against the window, begging me not to enter his place. The gnomes disturbed me with their faces but remained calm for the green boy. Once the door opened, his parents welcomed him home. Zim didn't react to it, instead, he took off the pullover and hand it back to me.
"...here your...ehm...rug thingy"
"Pullover"
He waved at me, while looking away, "Sure whatever. Thanks for the ride" The minute his sentenced finished, the door slammed shut.
Unsure at his behaviour, I shrugged, "...welcome..."
Dib and Zim still kept on making eye contact, only for the green boy to do this now from his window. The kid in the car flinched, as my hand slammed on the window, inches away from his face, "Stop this staring."
"Did he ask you inside?"
"Nope"
"Ask you to be his next experiment?"
"No"
"His evil companion?"
I pressed on to the horn out of frustration, startling the boy, "No Dib, all I am right now is a babysitter for you, the minion to your father and not interested in your friend."
"He is not my friend!"
"Sure, whatever" At least he stayed silent for the rest of the ride.
At the tiny house, Zim got startled as well by the horn, looking confused out the window. He could see us both arguing and even shout. The Irk got interested that I took my time to actually get him home unharmed. Zim is not used to such caring behaviour by the humans, feeling extremely insecure, "What is she after?" Still assuming that I am having a plan, he ordered his robot to hack our system, so he can eavesdrop on my calls and conversations with Dib. Of course, there wasn't much of a surprise. At the membrane family was it always the same routine. Gaz played her video games while Dib keeps on about the alien from school and how I shall not get too close. I didn't say anything to that, just nodding that I listened while preparing something to eat. Not even during bedtime he shut up. Already worn out, I nodded even slower at his energetic lecture of Zim, "Dib, it is night-time, you should be in bed an hour ago."
"But I am in bed"
"Sleeping, not chirping around"
"Will you tell me a bedtime story?"
I sighted loud, "Aren't you too old for those stories?"
"Pleaaaaaassssseeee?"
I raised a brow.
"It is the best part of the nightly routine we had" his eyes sparkled, handing me his newest file of investigation. Of course, this had to be about the alien in class. I made up stores based on his investigations, adding the extra action and Dib being the hero at the end. Basically, always the same thing, only with a different monster to fight with.
Defeated by his puppy eyes, I grabbed the file, checking the content for a few minutes. He sure researched him a lot, "Alright..."
At the same time, the device Zim made had made a connection to the Membranes home, hearing everything we do. Curious, he moved the joystick to inspect every part of the house, till he could hear my voice perfectly.
Excited his eyes glow with victory, "Now human, tell me your plans..."
"Not too long ago, an invader came to our world, prepared to end our lives as we know it."
"Hey, wait a minute....I AM THE INVADER!!!!"
"This creature was known as...Zim"
Pleased, the irken nodded to himself, "SEE...I told you it was me"
"...Oh, come on Dib, an alien invader called Zim. How lame does that sound?"
"LAME?!!!!!"
Dib begged me to continue, already hooked on to the story. I sighted, going through the file once more, "Okay, so...the invader planned to blend in with the humans, by adapting to his neighbourhood. He build his base in form of a house, along as disguising himself and his robot slave....pffff...."
Zim thought that something was wrong with the connection, increasing the volume. Dib on the other hand, frowned as I tried to keep myself form laughing, "Y/N, focus!"
"Sorry, just thinking on his appearance I couldn't help myself."
"I noticed"
"Ok... to get closer to the human species, he went to school and...puhahahaahhaahahahahahahahaha."
Zim got tense by the loud noise, turing the volume to mute, "What trickery was this?! Do they know I am spying on them?"
Dib was far from happy, as I kept on laughing, lying on the ground, holding my stomach, "What is so funny with that?"
"Hahahaha, who in their right minds....hahahaha...goes to school on their free will? That alien must be desperate...hahahahahaaha."
"Desperate?! Zim is not desperate... I blend in better with humans my size."
Without further interruptions, mainly from my side, I continued the story. Zim made a plan to capture me to get Dib mad, while he was about to rescue me was the best thing I could come up with, but at least it keeps the boy smiling. On the other, the irken was also hooked on this. Drinking and eating while listening to my story. When I mentioned him to have created a giant dragon that burned down the city, his brain was already planning his next move to destroy the earth. But he had to hide it from his enemy, he should not know his evil plan.
